I'd like to have some eggs to hatch !!! My girls are NOT laying at all. But, on a positive note, hubby saw Winston doing the deed today with one of my younger pullets - so hopefully molting is done and eggs are soon to be laid.

I had got down to 1 egg a day from probably 50 hens but it's slowly back up to around 3 or 4 a day. Most of the girls have finished their molt but I'm still waiting?

Came out this afternoon to find my two huge 8 month old Bama cockerels trying to kill each other!!

I am surprised as they have been together their entire lives. I'm just hoping not too much damage has been done as the one is our cockerel that we show. Ugh, boys...

I know the feeling. One day this summer I went out back to feed and water and seen DOC, the BAMMA cock I got last fall standing on my Bruno (Birchen Marans 3 year old cock). DOC had one claw totally wrapped around Bruno's neck. I am sure I saved Bruno's life. Previously Bruno had schooled DOC in fence fighting the prior month. By baiting him into the fence to scatch up his comb. So I guess this was payback for DOC. And DOC's two boys, Leni and L A R S had to be put into isolation thru this recent cold spell. They too do not play well with others. Another trouble maker here is TuT, he is a BUSTOFF cockerel who had beaten up his dad and them took on Thurston and whopped on him before I discovered he too needs to be in solitary confinement. So, IF I was you see how they react tomorrow. Generally their testing each other. They may decide it is no fun getting all bloodied up for nothing. OR split them up and keep one in a cage while the other is out in the pen. That is a last resort. Sorta like what I just went thru for last 3 days.

Hen Thymes if your going to show them you need to keep them separated. I have to start separating mine at about 7 to 8 months. I have two that i have side by side pens but i have tin and other things that keep them from tearing their combs up on the fence wire. I am hoping to show one in Jan. I need his comb to be pretty.

They are pretty bad, one even got his wattle all torn up and my show cockerel is pretty torn up right behind his comb on the top of his head. The sad part about it is that they aren't even breeding yet!
