Yes, you are probably right! I missed the part that she wasn't right under the shelf. To answer the other question about age I have read that 4 months to 2 years is common.

Nellie, they do look really nice. The only thing I see right off hand is they have light eyes instead of dark.

Thank you. We are not hatching eggs from this pen (actually they just started to lay) because of the eye color - they are just eye candy

. I do have a question though. I have their siblings, (blue and splash) that have very dark eyes. Is it possible for the siblings to pass along the light eyes even if their eyes are dark? Thanks in advance for the info.

Don't quote me but I believe it is possible to pass light eyes along if they are from the same breeding, just don't know how many would actually pop up from the cross?? I think it's kind of like side sprigs, they can be a carrier and not show it till offspring start to develop them. Even then it's not all offspring.

Maybe an old timer would chime in??

i did not even notice that at the first glance,they do have a nice body on them still,and eye color should not be that big of a issue to fix

Eye color is not a major flaw to some APA judges. A beautiful Black pullet won Champ English at the Central Indiana Poultry Show and won BV at the Crossroads show with a lite eye. That trait can be passed down and a good breeder has to keep coming back to darker eyed birds. But as seen at these major APA shows it is not a trait that would DQ a bird. Better breeders who keep good records can take that bird to darker eyed birds, but I would not take the offspring back to the lite eyed bird or you will see it again and again.
I have a nice lite eyed Black pullet. Instead of using her in my Black program I am using her to my White program. There the trait will fit in with Whites. I would only have to worry about the dark skin in Whites which is an easier fix
