The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

vickie, would love to see how you have that set up..might be helpful idea for a lot of people.
Lynne,

My creep is just a 6 x 6 corner fenced off under the covered run really. I put a sliding small door opening in the gate I use. The trick is to have the little door slide SIDEWAYS, not up and down. The older birds know how to skootch UNDER something it seems, but have not figrured out how to get their fat bodies through a narrow vertical opening. The babies figure it out in a hurry if they spend a couple of days in there.

jeremy needs ..an. egg hunt 2.. lord those blacks are unreal..every year i think jeremy cant possibly top that one, and then he does...also. be a little patient, a lot of new people in here, they dont know or understand about old fights in these threads..and they are just helping out if somone asks a question..

I don't understand any fighting. Just saying maybe you might want to start a thread saying for newbies on APA standards. This thread was not originally started for that and it has been rehassed so many times.
I think everyone should breed their birds to how they like them. Even If for example I personally don't think someones Orpington looks like my picture of an Orpington why is it any of my buisness to tell them I don't care for theirs? If they like it it is fine with me. If someone ask my personal opinion then I am glad to share with them what I think.
The origination of this particular thread was for dicussion of Imported Orpingtons and how we love them.
I am so for anyone discussing all the other things mentioned above . I just think it should be on a thread specifically for that so when someone clicks on that they will know what they are about to get into. Aveca I think you should start one.

a very good idea, im kind of suprised that somone hasnt started a thread like that by now..im just like everyone else..l love the english birds, want to enjoy them and other peoples birds and hopefully make a few freinds along the way..ive been in here just long enough to see lot of provocation and bad feelings in the past..this time i think it was innocent..wish there was a small banner across reminding people. ..

since i didnt bring it up, never bring it up, only talk about it when somone else brings it up..maybe someone else that is interested might like to do that..i have been told quite plainly how terrible my birds are in some pms..and openly.. pretty hurtful..i asked a question about a particular shape that occured in my own flock as well as i see it elsewhere..if that got misinterpreted somehow..would gladly show illustration in my own bird..until now im not really seeing where anyone is fighting?

Julie, the other day , you asked that you dont understand why more people dont like these birds..its not the birds, its the people..you have to walk on eggshells to say anything..like its an exclusive club that only the few chosen are allowed to express their ideas or opinions......you have no idea what i have been through.....this nightmare is just never going to end.
certian person bothering me and my freinds, funny nothing is said the whole time...bombarded with tons of pictures with tidy insults tucked in and no one says one word..interesting..thought we were supportive to each other..no one stood up for me when i was harrassed over a strain of orps that i hatched for freinds..some people arnt big enough to just say they are sorry, and that was all they had to do..they just creat more trouble.

As for a black rooster with a blue gene being best:
I have been told that the best black to use for blues is one that resulted from a BBS mating rather than one from a pure black line. And now I'm addle headed and don't remember exactly why but I believe it was because that black has silver in it and not so much the green enhancement.
Edit: As per Gayle's post on UOC boards, it is because the black from the BBS line has the lacing gene, or should.
The best birds to use for making blue should be carrying silver not gold. That is what keeps them from turning the reddish color when the feathers get old. It doesn't matter what color they are as long as one of the birds in the pairing is blue.

The gold in the blacks helps to get a better beetle green sheen. Both black and blue birds would carry the lacing gene if they have it. It is a recessive trait, so it needs two copies. A black bird can have the lacing gene as can a blue.
