The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I dont think so Dee, but Julie can help out more here, where you gal ?
I don't think the tail is too high at all. I have seen SOP american Orps win Reserve Champion English with a tail higher than that. It will probably depend on the judges

I am just so busy. I have company starting to roll in on Tues. I have been washing collard greens and spring cleaning. But let me tell ya. the price of cornmeal is 5.96 for a five lb bag. Gonna be some spensive cornbread for Thanksgiving. Baking a hen tonite for cornbread dressing and dumplins. Still have bake some sweet potatoes for Tater pie. When my family gets here we all get in the kitchen. My brothers will be carving the meat they cook and one sis frys cornbread and we all laugh and have a wonderful time. Grandchildren will be everywhere. Can't wait

Hope all my chicken buddies have a Blessed Thanksgiving

Good to know. There's hope for him yet.

Have a great time visiting with family! Everyone be safe.

Good luck Roger, I won't be able to check online until I return, but I'll be thinking about you!

This is Mad Max. In keeping with the Eng standard, is his tail getting too high?

Jeremy, were you suggesting improving type on the partridge cockerel?

By outcrossing to BBS birds, yes.

A lot (most) of the pictures I have seen of the newly imported colors do not have the type that the BBS birds do. The great thing about BBS is that it makes a wonderful outcross color, you can breed literally almost any other color to a Blue, Black or Splash bird and in a few generations be back at the original color you wanted to improve with a much more shapely bird.

That said, I'm speaking about type when breeding towards the English SOP.

Marc posted a picture of a Cuckoo hen a few pages back that also had excellent type.

The post with his reply makes me think, "does this dress make my butt look too big?" LOL He's beautiful! The tail might be a bit too high but he's still gorgeous!

I'll keep watching his tail. Don't have too many choices for this spring. If only my pullets do their job and provide me with lots of choices next year?! I'll have a talk with them

Have a Safe Thanksgiving everyone!

Dee, if you look at pictures of champion orpingtons. Often the tail is same height as head.. not saying squirrel tailed which is different..it is part of type..it is supposed to be that way. Some varieties more so than others.
