The inevitable humidity question, day before lockdown, help please!

Pics
Mine at 16 weeks this past Friday and not showing any signs of reddening up but their combs are not black, but a kind of pale pinky orange. I cant remember if CCLs are early layers??? BCM are later, yes? I seem to remember that my BCM hens only started laying around 26 - 27 weeks. It would be nice if these little pullets decided to produce a little earlier.
My CCL laid within the 18-28 weeks, can't remember exactly and not sure I recorded it...so did the Marans I have
Remember we talked about the black combs on the pullet chicks?
Someone mentioned that theirs had stayed black until POL.
Damn CRS hitting hard and too scattered to scan thread.

Lazy Gardener (post #66 in this thread) was talking about her crosses with black combs but ours were the 'black beaks' in male vs female although looking back at the pics. the hatchlings had some pretty dark combs.
Of the BCM chicks that I kept from this hatch, one of the pullet's combs has gone bright red but she is also only 16 weeks. Why would the comb redden up so much when she is still so young? She can't be ready to lay yet, can she????

Thanks, yes!

The BCMxCCL is not bright red but definitely pinkening and not the black anymore.
Those pullets can drive you nuts as they get close to POL, brightening with activity/excitement then paling back out when they mellow back out. SMH.

@aart, guess what I got today? My first two little green eggs from my BCMxCCL pullets: :wee

Pretty great that they both decided to lay on the same day, no??
Absolutely!!
Congrats!!

For some reason I thought your birds were a couple weeks younger than mine.
My first BCMxCCL is 20wo, and has been reddening up(losing that black) for a couple weeks, so am starting to get excited, and have 3 more are only 15wo.
Also have 3 BCMxOE at 15wo.....really curious to see what comes out of them.
Hard to wait...but it's the name of the game.

Got 3 more CCL pullets this spring, so next year will have a bunch of eggs to hatch.

What size and out of what do you make your nesting boxes? I had some built last year for the coop that I built and my hens wont touch them. ALL of my hens lay in the 5 nesting boxes in the main coop. When this next crop of pullets really gets going on laying, its going to get really crowded in there.
