The inevitable humidity question, day before lockdown, help please!

I’m going to be mighty disappointed if they don’t get darker. :p

I’ve only once previously had a blue Marans pullet. Hers were speckled, and I think the ground color stayed about the same. The speckles were really dark.
I hatched marans egg last year, one was a mix(which was disappointing) she lays gorgeous dark eggs, but its terminally broody. The only other hen is a train wreck, oblong light eggs with speckles that don't hatch well. <shrugs> always an adventure with long bittersweet waits.

Well, I'm going to throw my two cents in here. My BCM hens lay, and have laid since they began, a range of brown eggs. Yes they do vary a little at the beginning through mid lay cycle but not THAT much, IMHO. Here are some pics:

In the top photo all of the eggs are from my newest laying pullets. The eggs have been that color since they began laying. In the lower pic, my year old hens both BCM are laying these eggs. The one on the right has never been a different color, always a paler brown.
I am no expert with this stuff, but I would say that your layer @WVduckchick, will lay that color egg, maybe a little darker through the cycle, but not much:(. Has your other hen in the photo started laying yet?

I guess it doesn’t really matter to me, but I was hopeful for some nice dark eggs.
This is the first egg, so just the one pullet. I didn’t get a look at her when she came out, so I’m not even sure which one laid it. I have 8 pullets.

I know we discussed egg weights here, didn’t we? This first one weighs 47 grams. It seems fairly good size, but I’m used to all bantam eggs, so :idunno
Y'know I didn't weigh that CCL egg, it was tiny tho, I'd bet it was below 30g.
47g is pretty good for a first egg, most that I remember were in the 30-40g range.

Well then you have plenty of opportunities for darker eggs. :bowWhen you hatched these gals, were the eggs nice and dark?

I think CCL eggs are smaller anyway, at least mine are. I only have the one hen but her egg, while consistently laid, is much smaller than my other hens. Our famous BCMxCCL pullets eggs are small too, I am hopeful that they are going to increase in size as the cycle goes on!

Yes, the CCL eggs are on smaller side overall.
My first BCMxCCL eggs are actually pretty good sized, and have been since after the first couple eggs...and she's only taken 2 days off in the last 24 days.
