Even at 5-6 weeks female beak is darker.

Something else I just noticed looking at these birds today....
...them males have lighter eyes than the female.
Male's are a golden hue while female is dark greenish...might not last.
Also just realized I cannot find my pics of these birds
...so came here to this thread to 'rescue' a couple.

OK, so riddle me this. My pullets from this cross are black, the cocks are barred. If the rooster had been the CCL in the mix and the hen the BCM, would the plumage be different? I asked this question in another thread that you are watching about the same hybrid where the OP showed pics of his offspring pullet and she was barred and beautiful. What do you think?
As to the eye color, my cocks have the same color as their dad, and I think the pullets have the same as their mother, boys golden, girls more greenish gold. So about the same as yours!

I guess so......I do not know jack about plumage genetics.
They are nifty looking females in that thread.

Hmmmm.....don't wander there much...but one is junebuggena.
Search their posts in the genetics and breed forums and you'll find more.

Sex link barring only works with solid cock and barred hen, as the hen passes the gene only to her sons.

From my notes:
Double Barred Male X Barred Female = Double Barred Males, Barred Females

Single Barred Male X Barred Female = 25% Double Barred Males, 25% Single Barred Males, 25% Barred Females, 25% Solid Females

Double Barred Male X Solid Female = Single Barred Males, Barred Females

Single Barred Male X Solid Female = 25% Single Barred Males, 25% Barred Females, 50% Solid

Solid Male X Barred Female = All Males Will Be Single Barred, All Females Will Be Solid

Thank you for laying all that out, very interesting. I hatched out a CCL cockerel not too long ago and have been considering selling him but now I am rethinking that. I assume the olive egger pullet idea works either way as does the sexlinking yes?
I did ask on the genetics forum about whether or not the CCL cockerel would automatically carry two barring genes just by virtue of his breed and the response was affirmative as long as he is from good stock! How would his breeding affect that, he either is or is not a Cream Crested Legbar, no?

You could ask that question on the Cream Legbar thread. I haven't quite gotten an understanding of their genetics yet. The hens are not barred but still produce male offspring with a head dot. Maybe we can learn together.
