The Legbar Thread!

I agree roll-out nesting box so that the hen cannot get at the egg. Here is also a device, designed to stop pecking but said to be able to prevent them from breaking the shell.

They can be obtained from ebay (ebayUK) and may be a good thing to have on hand. I just noticed this evening that Lily's has broken off or popped off by her wiping it...have been wondering if I should leave on or remove. She goes to a new home on Sunday!
Not sure that was the link you wanted.

Congratulations on your beautiful little ones! Vanilla Ice looks even lighter than my Blue. Did Jon give you their hatch date? They look to be about the age of the pair I picked up about a month ago. I'm curious because I forgot to ask for their official hatch date.
They were a gift from crazypetlady. She got them for herself, but when she received them she decided I should get them since I will be working at improving the breed.

I really want to know the hatch date too.

I'm going to post some pictures of my roosters. These are the two I favor and one that i wish were lighter because he's the tank of the bunch but he may turn out with more gold than I'd like. My favorite is Macbeth, the oldest born 8/19, then Macduff born 9/5. The tank is Bigboy born 8/30. This may be a bit pic heavy - sorry. I want to enjoy them as much as I can now. It's a long way to spring. These are from my iphone so they look darker toned than the birds really are. First is Macbeth.

Next is Macduff. He has a better comb so far and no crooked toes like poor old Macbeth who hatched on day 19 in the egg turner because I did not get his poor egg into lockdown on time.

Above is Macduff with Bigboy and below is Bigboy.

What I notice most is the lack of chestnut on the shoulders and the very light hackles and saddles in the two boys. I have 2 that are from my golden hen and they have a dusting of brown on their feathers that these 2 did not have. I am very interested to see how they turn out in comparison to the others. But I am excited to watch them grow out. The pictures really do not capture them as I would like them to look so I will drag the Canon Rebel out there and see what I can come up with. I am really hoping for a few really good options from this bunch. I have 2 males and 1 female in the brooder that came directly from Greenfire so interested in how those look also.

So beautiful blackbirds! I can't wait to see those handsome boys grow up! So, I have to ask...do you have a bachelor pad? Or are they just in a line for pictures?

One thing I have noticed about legbars, is that they eat less then my leghorns. Which is a nice thing with the price of feed going through the roof.
