The Legbar Thread!

what a joy it must be to have nice strong blood in your stock. man i would be hoping for 3 roos and 3 pullets from jills eggs also. you could set up 3 breeding pens.

This is a pic from a guys set up in America , He is one of the best in the country for breeding Ameraucanas here is his site. http://chickhatchery.com/PhotosHatchery.html

I think if i had the start your getting Habib i would do something like this except id probably make the cages at least 4 by 4 with some more head room for mating. pics didn't post well they wont open up large.

Not sure about everyone else but my hatches haven't gone as planned this year. I'd say I got close to 75% cockerels which is not what I was wanting. I got lots of nice rose combed chicks so far that look promising, figure I'll raise all of them up for awhile before I start culling. I booted the rose comb hens from the pens again so I can get some eggs from certain legbar hens and try to figure out who is throwing what as far as color goes.

same here. But my blood is weak i think . im getting a ton of late quitters. Im trying diffrent hatching techniques now. And my hens eggs are starting to get bigger so im hoping that will also help.

. As far as mostly boys im actually happy with that. My roos have super high tails. So far all the boys ive hatched ive noticed corrected tail angles except for maybe one has a high tail . The large lot of boys will be a blessing for me this year. I will grow them all out and im hoping with a corrected tail angle i get one or two with nice earlobes and combs that stay straight.

It would be sad to improve in one area of their form and have other things slide backwards. Im hoping one of my boys will end up being on my dream team.

If i get some good males to breed back to my females i think i might have a chance next year at hatching some good stock.

Lots of people need good cream colored cockerels

Went to the website so I could look at the "big" pictures- that is a COOL setup!

Yep- out of a dozen eggs in last week's hatch I managed to get 9 boys (all dark) and 1 girl. The only other girl pipped and died. :(

That is so sad.

His set up must keep his cages really clean. you can see all his pine shavings above the cages i bet he has a super easy cleanup. Plus with everyone inside a garage or building they can stay cool and warm depending on the season. Sometimes i feel bad keeping mine caged though.

http://photos.silkiesbygeorge.com/GalleryThumbnails.aspx?gallery=110613 this guy stopped breeding but it was the first type of breeding coops like this that i noticed i liked. they are a bit bigger like i said id like to build.

Good Morning! Just a quick update from our neck of the woods

...DH is modifying a corner of our hen pen by fencing it off and adding a small coop so that we can safely introduce our young (blrw, legbar and ee) pullets to the big mamas...perfect 70 degree weather to be outside in NC...and this project will free up our other small coop and pen allowing the six (3 boys, 3 girls) cream legbars ( Easter hatch) to be moved out of the garage

...from reading this thread I believe that my girls are probably pretty dark and my boys will likely have too much color but we are still super excited to be raising cream legbars!!
