The Legbar Thread!

Just may be of interest....a rooster recently left here for rehoming, --and I got a report from his new home. Besides raves about his great BEAUTY - they are THRILLED about how sweet he is. He shepherds their hens, cares for them, protects them -- Already has a favorite hen to pal around with -- and is exemplary in his behavior. He has kind of combined the flock in to one big happy family..... isn't that great?

That's such good news. I dreaded re-homing 3 cockerels last fall, but the lady who took them send me a photo of them in their new digs at her home. Its so nice to know what happens to your guys.

Even better is the report on his nice behavior. Mean roos make me grumpy nice roos are a pleasure to watch with their ladies! Hopefully it also means you have a good line of polite gentlemen.

Hey guys!
Don't know how I just found this thread but hello to everyone! I have a trio and some in the bator now. I was wondering how much everyone charges for their chicks. I was thinking $45 for pullets and $15 for males (more if they are super pretty). And offering my "off" colored girls for $25.
What are everyone's thoughts?
Here is my rooster, Walt.

Right now, you can pretty much ask what you want and what ever amount people will pay. In general, customers are willing to pay more online than locally. Other than GFF, the prices look like they're coming down though. I've even seen 1 day old pullets go for around $20, but more the norm is around $40/pullet and $10/cockeral up to 5/6 weeks.
Beautiful boy btw!

I appreciate your response. I have been debating what I will charge for some time. I don't want to overcharge people but I also don't want to undercharge and upset other breeders.

I see $45 a female and $15 a male in my area, Northern CA. Really, you'll know in a few weeks whether folks are interested or not. I just hatched chicks and have some for sell. The price point is normal for those who have researched and want this breed, but high if you just want chicks or blue egg layers. I like to drop price for trios or multiples. Depending on your needs trading is a lot of fun! The other day, a friend exchanged a couple of her husband's wood turned wine bottle stoppers for trio. Good deal on both ends. We both left with smiles!
