The Legbar Thread!

CCL folks:

Opinions welcome...I have just hatched my first three chicks mixed CCL roo over BOs and GLWs...pics below...both of the BOs typed chicks have a black mark on the top of their head...hope the pic shows it .....its this a variant of the white marking on CCLs???

Hi,

You may want to go over to the Cream Legbar Hybrid thread. Lots of discussions and pictures of various experiments! BTW, I recently hatched a CCLxBO and a CCLxSFH and both are showing a black spot on the head with detectable chipmunk stripping. Feather sexing for these two also indicate female.

Well Thank god we have the CCL Hybrid thread and the Phenotype vs Genotype threads, to keep these threads(like this one and the SOP thread) free of this type of posts... they will get help there too, as I post there too. no need to keep this threads off topic

I feel like a little kid again. I'm going to Greenfire Farm on Thursday to pick up some CL chicks. Advice on questions I should ask? I am somewhat of newbie. If he turns out OK, the roo pic I posted is going to be my stud (hey, I'm a horse person, gimme a break ) I plan to get 4 females.I have 6 week old ebay egg chicks but after pouring over the CL forums, they are not breeders.Small, weird colors. How I'm going to explain being gone all day and spending $ 100 on fricking chickens and why will be interesting. ...

Sounds like a fun trip. Remember to get at least two cockerels so that you can choose the better one for breeding. It also helps if one, for whatever reason, does not survive or has issues.

I have 4 pullets and 3 cockerels from 2013 lines . 2 female and 1 male are cream the others 2 female and 2 male are gold and will not be added to my breeding pen. Look for light males at the very least . I was able to spot my cream male as soon as I pulled them out of the box.

Lucky you -- Have fun and good luck.
We all want to ride along with you -- and bring some home to ourselves.

The expense is because it is good for the soul and you are helping by breeding a wonderful chicken, and helping the United States of America have a reliable, healthy, happy, beautiful, autosexing breed of blue-egg laying (did I saw autosexing) chicken. (You can quote me) LOL. It is kind of part of your patriotic duty as I see it. You are just doing your duty.
