The Legbar Thread!

www.beaktime.com was where I got both the standard drinking cups and the chick ones. I just checked though and I don't see the chick self filling ones. I'll look around.

Ohhhh found them, but mine were cheaper since they didn't come with the guard. I just inserted them directly into a 5 gallon PVC bucket.

I may try those. I got some of those auto-refill type that when the chickens peck at the yellow lever in the center it refills. I had a heck of a time training each batch of chicks to use it and often finding the cup bone dry because they would avoid touching the lever.

I finally gave up on it. Works great for adults though since it's a one time teach and they teach new ones.

You cna get VetRX at tractor supply, many feed stores if they have it in stock, and also on line.
The other salve that you can try is bag balm and It is sold at feed store and at human pharmacys. If you are worried about chickens ingesting the VetRX, don't substituted Vaseline. It is a petroleum product and not safe for internal use. We can't even get it at the hospital where I work anymore. My Cream Legbar combs suffered last week with the cold weather. The other roosters didn't have the same problem at all.
