Another thing I've noticed about sexing the cream Legbars, is that they didn't go through any phase where the autosexing chick down color was lost, before the male barred color came in. I was worried because one of my pullets was the exact same light shade as my cockerel. And I thought that I might get them mixed up for a while when they lost their chipmunk stripe down and head spots and eyeliner, before the cockerel developed male traits. But that didn't happen. He started getting his barring before he lost his white head spot. And the pullets pretty much kept their eyeliner until I could see their non-striped female feathers.

So if it helps, they retain different characteristics throughout their development, so far as I have seen.

Just calling it a pullet helps, lol. Both do have a similar color to the pullets in your photo.

Even when the auto sexing characteristics are weak it's pretty clear whose who with legbars by 4 to 6 weeks, it's impossible to not see the difference. I bought some orpington pullets a while back that the breeder and I both thought they were all pullets until about 20 weeks when one of them turned into a rooster.

I'm not sure of the quality on the new hatchery CL.  It currently could probably go either way. Honestly $47 per CL pullet is a lot in my opinion many reliable breeders breeding to the proposed standard don't even charge that much. If you look on the cream legbar club website there is a breeder directory. Maybe a reliable source is close to you. Good luck finding yourself some pullets

Whether you know it or not, my pet chicken is a satellite of Meyer Hatchery, I personally have never gotten anything of quality from them. They charge high prices for cull quality birds. I have not purchased legbars from them, but I have black copper marans that out of three pullets that survived a major die off after receiving them, they all have feathered legs, but only one has a slight amount of copper coloring, the other two look like black australorps. I also have two welsummers that lay light brown eggs from them, and I have some poor quality blue ameraucanas from them. I would suggest that you buy from a quality breeder if you're looking for quality birds.

If you want any breed standard chicken then I wouldn't get it from a hatchery.

I'm in northeast PA. I cannot spend $47.00 for chicks, so I am hopeful to find someone nearby through this board.
