How old are they before they start laying? I know mine were 4 weeks at Valentines Day so I was thinking about 5 months? I also just bought 6 eggs from MadamWlfCumbo and all 6 are developing

I have had mine for 20 weeks. I got them from Greenfire and they were supposed to be six to eight weeks old then. I think they were older. Here is a picture of one of the pairs when I got them 20 weeks ago.

She laid another egg today and hers are pretty small like the first ones I got on eBay. The eggs I got from you are larger and more rounded. I hope that means they come from the different "lines" Greenfire has established. I wish they were more forthcoming about the age of the birds being sent and the "line" they come from. They talk about genetic diversity but then tie their buyers hands by not providing any information. I understand they started banding them later so that's good. I am going to collect a few more of these and then put them in the incubator.

Mary, that is great you finally got your first egg! That egg looks pretty large to be a Pullet egg!

I have a question about the crests. It looks like it is not common to get a crest on a rooster? Did anyone get a hen without one? One of my 3 month old hens doesn't look like she's going to have one.

Someplace, I have read that the hens come in two varieties, crested and not crested. If I find the place, I will edit back with a link.

ETA - whoops, I guess the crest is required. Here is the "Standard" from the UK where they originate. Toward the bottom it says that they are crested:

Here are my two:

My niece is holding them. I just cannot get a good picture. They came from High Vew Farm in the Texas Hill country, and Samantha there got them from GFF. They are so adorable, they trill when you talk to them in the morning....and the little cockerel was trying to crow at 2-months old. They were hatched on Jan. 9th.

I found out mine were hatched February 6th and the cockerel is from line 'A' and the pullets are both line 'C' which is nice I guess. I plan to do an outcross with them to bring up egg production anyway so having the two lines will still be great to work with.
