Cflaming, OK that makes me think some more. I had wondered if they'd (all guys) drive each other nuts or if I'd end up with a few seriously sad roos, missing tail feathers, etc. However, since I don't want them pestering the girls, I think I'll try separation. Maybe I'll add1 roos into the hen house. I'm probably over thinking this. It's about a hundred degrees here today. My brain is off. Every chicken is panting under my deck and around the base of my house. Just wondering can a male roos damage the interior parts of a female if she is mated too young? Answer if you like, but I'll look for a topic thread on this. Thanks, all of you, it's great to keep the conversations going!

free ranging does help to keep multiple roos, I could keep 3 but my girls were going insane with the two younger ones trying to hop on anytime the dom roo wasnt' looking.
I had taken my 2 cream legbars pullets when one got injured so I figured the two roos could stay together since they grew up together and hadn't been separated. Neither have tail feathers right now

None really. It took my girls 7 months to start laying. The rooster had been crowing for a while by then.

I found my first Cream Legbar egg today! And my flock is actually only 4 months and 16 days old. So I'm not sure why they are laying so early but I'm not going to complain! I have 3 girls and one roo. So I guess it's time to hatch out some more. The egg is a pale green.


It's the middle egg in between my two serama eggs and two rhode island red eggs. It's small but hopefully that will change.

Aren't we ideally supposed to wait the 7-weeks until the eggs reach full size before hatching from them for the optimum health of the chicks? I think I read that in Gail Damerow's book.

I'm not hatching any out yet. Just meant that I can a few months before I thought I could.
