The Legbar Thread!

Wanted to post my project on here.
I recently picked up 4 maybe 5 1/2 Cream Legbar x Crele Penedesenca and welsummer crosses.
1 appears to be a rooster and the other 4 hens ( 1 looks like a pure welsummer which she thought she had put a chick in with the mixes)
I am excited to see how these come out and if these crosses can be auto sexed. all 3 of these breeds are auto sexable.
I plan on breeding the females back to my male Crele Penedesenca. I am hoping to work on a auto sexable olive egger.
Just wondering what you all think?

Really beautiful pictures of the eggs and the chicks.

2 of my boys are crowning. Hoping to get a coop set up and a new run in the next few weeks to move the legbars to their own home!

I was out looking at birds for the first time since I started working retail again. I had just been feeding/watering in auto pilot lately and not paying much attention to the birds. I noticed that Frederick is getting HUGE. I put a brown leghorn hen in with him just to keep him company since he is getting feisty and Ingrid is still young (they turn 4 months on the 6th). The leghorn hen is full size and matches my ameraucana hens in size, I almost thought she was big until I noticed the size difference in them today. I'd say he is 4" taller than her overall just at the head. Almost more like comparing a good show type minorca with a leghorn is the best comparison I can think of. I need to get pics before too long

Cooper12, Sounds good. For shades of green and fun, I'm going to cross CL x Welsummer and CL x Wyandotte. My #1 CL roo got transferred to the hen house. He's already mating the Welsummers! Boy was he happy this morning!

Here's a new batch of Cream Legbars hatched from TX Ebay eggs- 6 girls & 2 boys! They are a few weeks old & I see that the 2 boys are feathering in a little bit differently, one is a spotty white & blackish & the other one is more brown.

Wow! That is a great hatch - they are simply adorable. Keep the pictures coming as they feather out.

Some Silvers will occur naturally in a Gold or Cream Legbar breeding program or can be specifically bred substituting Silver Duckwing Leghorns for the Brown Leghorns in the breeding process.
My latest batch of Gold Legbar chicks have a Silver male and a Silver female amongst them. I hope to breed these together to start a new line of Silvers.

Hi chooksandeggs-Aus,

That is so fascinating!! will the resulting sliver (Silver Legbars will be the correct name?) lay white eggs from the Leghorns?
