The Legbar Thread!

It should not matter pol on the eggs. Hens often set and lay awhile before they incubate their eggs.
Thats a beautiful Robins egg. Wish I had a hen that layed that color. Gloria Jean

Hi Crazyhen, I was referring to how one started laying 3 weeks ago, one 11 days after that, and one 11 days after the 2nd one. I was surprised how spread out each ones first egg was. I was expecting them to start a little closer together.

OHHHHHHH I havehad hens for a bit and they always are spread out. Sisters never are really the same. Personalities are different too. Just like in most familys Gloria Jean.

That's why you pretty much have to send for one of the printed charts, it cuts out the problem of how your monitor is adjusted. Through the Araucana Club they are only $3.

I also need to get a copy of the Marans egg color chart.

THANKS Deb!
wow, I love that robbin's egg color too. Now that would be quite a goal for egg shell color.

My F1 rose combed legbar eggs are due on Monday. I figure I'll keep the nest pullets from that cross and mate them to Rupert (my cockerel from Mary) which should give pure cream legbars, hopefully rose combed and better layers than the parents.

OK - I had a white chick hatch and they are a little harder to sex. I keep thinking I am seeing some little racing stripes, but then there is a tiny bright dot on top of the head. I can't decide. (Also pardon the little poop - chicks can be so rude) So let me know what you think:

Looks to be a rooster.

Well it took a few days but I finally got through this thread. I am totally in love with this breed and someday when I have chickens, this will be the breed for me. Beautiful plumage, blue eggs, and Punnett nerd cred! What more could you ask for?

Just wanted to say thanks for all the pics and discussion, I will definitely be keeping up with this. :)

When are you getting chickens?

Most Cities will let you have a small flock of Hens. If you live in an apartment you may be able to keep some at a Community Garden. I waited way too long...
