The Legbar Thread!

I have only hatched one cream legbar and that was a couple of weeks ago. I did sneak 6 eggs into the incubator a couple of days ago before someone tried to buy them! Maybe I will get a white from that. Actually I don't even know what I would do with a whites since I am out of coops. Probably better to stick with the creams.

Very pretty!
Odd question: does anyone use Pantone color numbers as a standard for their eggs?
Pardon my ignorance, but what are Pantone color numbers? ? ;O)

Also, on egg shell color, if the inside and outside of the shell are the same color, then there is no brown coating...correct? So those eggs are deriving all their color from the chicken's genetics.

boykin, so very sorry that you lost your favorite. I agree that letting the cockerel have company of other hens may help during the transition.

This heat is awful. I'm worried about my female too. My cockerel is soooo heavily feathered, I'm worrying about him as well, but I think that the crests contribute to the heat retention. My legbars have a very soft fluffy feathering, and I think that that type of feathering retains the heat more than the slick hard feathers of other breeds like my leghorn hybrid (Ideal 236)

Probably much less expensive than shelling out for a set of Pantone color cards.
(sorry but I couldn't resist)
