The Legbar Thread!

The oldest hen GFF has is a week old :(
It was 103 here Saturday. About 100 today. It was even hot through all those storms last week. IT was raining and still 95+ degrees.

I am sorry to say that today my cream legbar hen passed away due to the extreme heat wave we are experiencing right now.

Does ANYBODY know where I can buy a fully grown adult cream legbar hen or 2 for my rooster. I am afraid he will die of depression now because they have been raised together since they were little. I know it is a long shot because so many people are buying the CL right now but I need to try. If anyone has one please let me know

How awful! You were so successful with your pair. I am too far away to help too and my girls are not yet laying. I got them from Richard and wouldn't it be weird to ship back accross the country.

I sold one of my roos last year to a gal whos chicks were in the brooder. He was so lonely in the coop alone that he found his way to the house and so she put the pullets in with him and he was quite happy. Now a 1 week old chick is too young for that but hopefully you can find some a little older.

Hi All,

I have pictures today of my Cream Legbars:

Is Cockerel 3 the best of them?

Hey John I have 4 of Mary's eggs in lockdown and expect a hatch 4 July--Kathy--your future Deer Park neighbor (the 10 acres on Owens Rd) Also--I got 4 Peachicks yesterday--just hatched, in fact they are crying for me right now--nothing like choicks, they want me to hold them!
I am Michael from facebook, lol. I pass Owens rd every time I leave my house (basically I'm a mile north of you at the end of the main road). Just give me a holler when you get ready to move there and we'll have to meet up and talk chickens.

I'm so envious! All my chicken conversations are over the internet. (sniff sniff)

I'm so sorry! If I had one and lived within a few hundred miles, I'd give it to you.

It's been in the 90s here and very dry. My chicks (not CLs) are panting despite shade, a mister, a fan, iced water, frozen treats, and gallon-jug blocks of ice.

It's tough losing a chicken to heat but a rare bird is devastating.
Do you have any other hens to put him with till you can come up with CLs. He won't care as long as he has friends.

Several people around here have lost birds. So far I haven't but we're in the midst of 12 days of 100 or more. We hit 108 on the 28th. Today's going to 104, 105 tomorrow and 103 Friday and Saturday. This is pretty unusual for us. So far my Penedesencas and a few other DP and Mediteranean breeds are hanging in there but they're not happy.

I'm sorry Michael, I know you are Michael B from facebook, senior moment--lol. Yes, we need to meet, can't wait until we can start building our coops and pens, err I mean house (does it really need to come first!).
