I agree, there is something about this breed.......... and my little cockerel was crowing (albeit screechy) when he was two months old. I didn't even know they could start that early. So now of course, you know, you need to post 4-month old pictures.

Does anyone know what the average egg size of the CLs? My girls are almost 7 months and I'm not happy with their egg size. I don't want to use them for their egg production if I can't get eggs from them that are least 50 grams. Anyone knowledgeable about this?? Thanks!

I do not weight my eggs so I cannot give you an exact weight. However, I would be willing to bet that while my hen was laying her eggs were larger than 50 grams. Several people who bought eggs from me commented on how large the eggs was. I was surprised also. She was laying the same size eggs as my orpingtons. I consider their eggs extra large. Maybe the egg size depends on the line imported?

Mine range from 45 to 55 generally hover about 47-ish. She had some (like 3) 57 (2 oz. USDA 'large') then went back down. Our temps here are 100's+ daily though....so it may not be a fair assessment.

ETA corrected 52-ish to 47-ish.

I think the first line that was imported laid huge eggs.
The chicks that were sent out at the beginning of this year seem to be laying smaller very blue eggs.

I wish GFF would give us more information about this. If not when they were selling the day old chicks, at least when they had better characterized the different lines.
