Just dropping by to say "hello" to my fellow middle Tennessee folks. I'm located in Readyville, which you've probably never heard of unless you already live here......
Boy are my bantams cranky this morning! It all started at breakfast, with my broody red silkie deciding something just wasn't right . . . she started that alarm cluck-cluck-cluck that sounds like a bomb timer - - you just KNOW it's going to end in the mother of all cackles and get everyone all riled up. And riled they were: they had a full-on meltdown, the rooster was running in circles shouting, the hens were fretting and fussing, and I thought I would never get them quieted down. I went back to the coop just to make sure something wasn't wrong when they started in again - - but it appears that everyone has decided to lay eggs today (right now! now! now!), and no one likes the nestbox choices. Or everyone wants the other hen's box. Or the water doesn't taste right. Or the shavings aren't soft enough.
Anyhoo, they fussed so bitterly and for so long, that I finally shut the coop door and locked them all in! Sorry little roo. . . . you can come out after I've had my coffee.
(Now if there are any men on the mid-TN forum this morning, be very glad you don't have 11 wives. I should have left Remy some tiny ear plugs, poor bugger.)
RThomas, hello and welcome! I know where Readyville is - - between Mboro and Woodbury, right? That bump in the road, LOL??
1newegg, see, you have a neighbor on here already! Welcome. We recently had a mid-TN BYC lunch over in Murfreesboro and talked chickens all afternoon. We'll plan another get-together soon; hope you can both make it!
Hey there Holly! Where'd you get that nice blue cochin pair? They are lovely! . . . so now you're losing the whole new coop to babies? Sounds like someone needs to build at least one more coop. Come on, just one!
Nella, nice try with the red-shouldered roo (and the bunny, LOL!). . . I lit the "no vacancy" sign in front of this motel, though! It's pretty bad when you don't even have room for one more two-pound rooster.
Find me a nice farm out your way and we'll talk!
Well, my coffee mug is empty so I guess it's time to go open the coop door and relieve my poor little roo. Have a good day, everyone!
Jen...all of Megan's new Cochin's are coming from James Cooper. She's getting a wowza black pair from him as well and possibly 2 more blue pullets then the 2 kids will share the flock so they can share the cost of buying them..their money not mine
and Lucy of coarse will be in with them
Wild and Dixie will inherit the lavender and buff for a mixed pen and a pen of the mottled..can't forget the MF
Yepper the whole chicken house will be brooder now..half will be brooder boxes lined up on the walls
and the other half a grow up area that will have their own fenced in play pen outside as well as heat for nights inside.
Hey I'm all for the new coop he's hearing ALL about it trust me.I need one for these cochin's that has a completely covered run since those blue sun burn so easy and Meg wants to show them but I really need another one of my house type coops with breeding pens..he said "let me get this one finished before you start another" MEN got to love um though
Just found this thread after joining BYC this week! We're in Crossville - recently transplanted from south Texas and loving middle TN! We just received our day old chicks a week ago and are having a blast learning as we go!
Well we decided to buy all 6 of the Cochins..so donations now being accepted for that shipping bill
glad they are bantam and not big. It's going to be a pair of wowza blacks and 4 blue..the beauties I already put on and 2 younger pullets.
This little man is looking for a new home..he just doesn't know it..really like him though so if he doesn't leave soon he may end up hanging out here anyway.I have such a hard time parting with any of the cochin's
Claudia-
I'm delighted you are going to be there. I will look for you. 9???? Seriously??? I would have had to break every little piggy bank I had for that. Which ones did you get?
