I lowered the thermostat and ran it again and it spiked to 109* that thing is rock steady... it has to be the thermostat.

I will replace the thermostat and maybe try to build my new one over the next week or so...... That was my laying flock and breeders

I am really ok... it was really a confusing feeling, shock... maybe that is what I am in.....

Oh well that just sucks! What kind was your thermostat? I'd sure hate to have that happen. If they are prone to going out I'd rather buy a new one every year. I use the water heater type.

It was a WHT.... I have only had it a few months. Since the last of august. I never though about having to replace it every year. They work harder in the water heater don't they? I don't think I have hatched more than 10 time in it.

I'd chalk that to coincidence. Nothing you can do about it. Simple mechanical failure. I mean incubating kinda defies the basic laws of the good LORD, so I'd feel lucky for all the chicks you've hatched with that one, and just possess the knowledge that that might happen from time to time. It really sucks it was your hatcher, I feel your pain, but in the end, you did everything fine. It's just one of those things you can't do anything about.

Once I figured out it was the thermostat guilt left me, except the part about I should have taken most of them out last night.... never again... dry babies in the brooder at the end of the day.

So you actually lost some hatched chicks? That scares me, I'm never home and neither is my family. We are all gone from 6 in the morning till 5:30 at night. I worry way too much for that. I thought you were saying your eggs didn't hatch cause they got too hot. I'm doubly sorry now. God bless....

Yeah it was 18 fuzzy butts, 1 was not dry and another was not out completely so I decided to leave them in till the morning and take them all out at once. Didn't want to shrink wrap the one, since he was having a hard time.... Looked like he made it out ok and was up and about. So sad.... just should not have happened.

There's nothing you could do different. That Thermo should be working still. It's simple mechanical failure that cost those chicks. It would happen to anybody. I'm so, so sorry.
