Debid, we have a purebred chocolate lab who protects and herds our chickens. :) She loves to play with them, and one of the chickens will give here a run for her money - chicken and dog, nose to nose, seeing who will back down first - it's hilarious! We're going to try to get video of it today or tomorrow. But she's never tried to grab one of the chickens, who free range in the same fenced yard as Dianne goes out in. She'll herd them down to the coop or just sort of run and watch them flap around, but has never even tried to grab one.

I wish I could get my dogs to help herd. 2 of my dogs pretty much ignore them, but my big goofy dog gets upset when the birds fight - or make a racket mating. She will run to them and break up the fracas. Too funny.

I have a dog that does that! When two are squabbling he runs right in between them. If he can't get to them, he stands and barks at them. We call him the " Sheriff ". I always say that I am going to get a video of him but so far I haven't.

Good morning everyone!

I am going to streamline the breeding pens this weekend so if any of you need some dark egg layers or roos will be selling some. Also have some juvies and alot of Bantam yard candy. The Bantams will be free if you catch them yourself

Let me know if any of you are interested, I will be putting them on CL this Monday if my fellow BYCer don't need them.

Sorry but not at this time as I have not done the sorting yet. Marans mostly. I will have some blue cuckoo project hens (no longer wanting to work with them) have a couple of Golden Cuckoo hens that wont make the cut (just have too many) May have a few Black or Blue Copper hens. A lot will go because they are not feather legged, some for egg color some just because I have too many. Roosters will be Cuckoo, Blue Copper, Blue (was suppost to be solid but has bleed thru of color on neck) Black Copper. I also have some Dark Brahma juvies that need a home. Some of the bantam are pure bred but most are mixes.

Do you have Marans juvies? If so, what color, how old, and how much for the pullets? I don't NEED any but if I can get chocolate eggs

without building a grow-out pen, it's something I'd consider.

All are pullets I will not be selling my mature hens (they are doing too good a job). Most have just started to lay. My Black and Blue Coppers have not started yet so not sure which of those may stay but should know any day on them but all pullets/hens will be $10.00 each. The DB juvies and the roos will be $5.00 each.
Forgot to add all are from last falls hatching.

Sorry, I was doing other things at the same time and didn't refresh the screen before I posted.

How dark are the eggs ranging for the various colors?
