citygirl...I have a welsummer roo and 3 hens I hatched back in March. They are very textbook examples of the breed. If I can get them grown you can have all the eggs you want from them. They are exceptionally sweet little birds, and very resourceful too.

dmrippy... I would also be most happy to help you tend your chickens when you need to leave town. You have my cell still I hope, or you can always call Metro Roofing and Metal Supply and ask for Sam Matlock. Your place is on my way home. :)

I have been thinking about getting NPIP Cert. I would like to sell some birds at that Cookeville auction. How does it impact buy eggs to hatch? Can you still buy eggs or can you just buy from NPIP Cerf? I am not sure I am done picking the birds I want and I don't want to limit myself.
It's really strange that they were not clear on what the guidelines are as far as selling and buying hatching eggs, chicks and chickens. I hope that when I get my NPIP card, it will include all that information. Here's some info I found online:

(d) Except as provided by this paragraph, participants in the Plan may not buy or receive products for any purpose from nonparticipants unless they are part of an equivalent program, as determined by the Official State Agency. Participants in the Plan may buy or receive products from flocks that are neither participants nor part of an equivalent program, for use in breeding flocks or for experimental purposes, under the following conditions only: (1) With the permission of the Official State Agency and the concurrence of the Service; and (2) By segregation of all birds before introduction into the breeding flock

If that is the case, then you could get "products" from nonparticipating owners - but you'd have to get permission and then you'd have to keep the new ones separate from the others for awhile.

I have all the breeds I want. I want to add more pullets to my layer flock, but that's all. So I'm fine with the NPIP rules.

Ok, so I posted a couple direct links above. They work. While not great pics of the chicks they're all I have right now. More to come later. Feel free to chime in on breed. Total of 6 chicks could be any of the following: Marans, SLW, BR, Lav/Split Ameraucana. I know there's two Marans (feathered feet gave it away). I can bring a few of these on Saturday to trade if anyone is interested.

I am bringing lots of roos Marans and Exchequers. Also pullets that do not make the breeding pen cut. A couple of hens that are mossy or lay too lite. I may bring hatching eggs.

What kinda eggs? Hey my guy texted me this morning and he wants 5 marans pullets you got that many? I may have a couple, but I have sold so many I don't really have any to grow up for me and my marans have quit laying.

Broody question.... My marans broody started laying yesterday.... is she done with the chicks? She is in a pen and can't get away from them so I can't tell. I may move her back this week end. I need the pen for chicks I am keeping.... or the new broody Easter Egger that is broody on Olive Egger Eggs.
