Anyone interested in Icelandic fowl? I am going to move and will be unable to take my birds and critters with me. I can make someone a good deal on a start of Icelandics. Also have a pair of mini rex rabbits that I need to sell and a pair of partially pedigreed Harlequin Dutch does. Also have a half grown pair of Pomerianian Geese for sale. Seems its always the way, just as you get setup with birds or stock that you really like ,then life throws you a twist! We are going to sell our home and go fulltime in an RV for a couple of years before we retire back to our farm in Okla. Wish us luck, and if anyone has any RV experience be sure and let me know!

Hi all. My hens are barely laying. They stopped during the heat spell we had, and I'm only getting about an egg a day now (5 14 month olds, one of which is in molt)

Think it's the heat or do I need to start being concerned (er)?

Some of mine have quit laying too. Days are getting shorter, some are molting, the heat... everything. It has been about a month since I got eggs from my Lavenders. But my Wheatens are going full tilt.

Good Luck with your move! Way to bad about having to sell out, too bad Sandhill has not shipped you are not going to have a chance to enjoy the new ones.

Hey y'all - quick "noob" questions: my girls are about 4 1/2 months old now, and are getting a bit lean...do chickens go through that awkward skinny phase young dogs go through? They are active, eating a ton (provided nearly free-choice)...no scouring/outward sign of problems...just getting a little spindley-looking...is that normal for the large breeds (standard EEs, GLW, Jersey Giants)? Also, with the nastiness of the heat this summer, is it to be expected that they haven't laid yet? Thanks!

Most of mine don't start laying till almost 6 months. With this heat I would think that is OK.... the Spindely-looking part would worry me. I don't remember any getting thin, they get bigger all over usually. They will eat tons of feed at this age. Worms would be my first thought, are they outside?

Yea, she is pretty nuts over top hated breeds.. I am a big Wyandotte fan. I still havent seen a chicken I didnt like though!
Well...turkens are pretty ugly.. I wouldnt own one...No offence to them or the Turken fans....Cough cough..Okla..:p

Speaking of Dottes, getting two black on splash foley pairs this weekend! Excited!
