I hope they do to. I don't really mind them, but don't want to be near them either. I saw a pic on Ebay where guinea have a rattle snake surrounded. Don't know what happened.

Daddy is having surgery on the 11th (Thursday) They told him he would be home the next day

I am looking for a good source to buy Jubilee Orpingtons in Tennessee or Alabama. It would be nice to actually buy my first small flock in person locally. Anyone kbnow of anyone in AL. or TN. raising them? Thanks.

There is one person on CL selling them... no idea how good they are. I will have some by summer but they will just be babies.

So sorry your dog was bitten. To me, the only good snake is a dead one. A friend told me guineas kill snakes. Anyone know if that's true? We have 11 of them, I'm hoping they do!!
Yes Guineas will flock in a circle around a snake & all peck it until dead, sometimes you'll lose a bird if it gets too many bites but they do have some resistance to snake venoms so they don't always die from even multiple bites.

As to the Gatersnake , it as do other snakes carry a heavy load of BACTERIA in their mouths, ppl underestimate how fast that can become a life threatening septic infection from a bite. The bite site(s) need to be cleaned and watched for signs of infection, in a human they often don't take it very seriously at the ER but Dr. in the know _always_ proscribe a course of anti-biotics for any break the skin snake bite b/c of the possibility of it going septic so quickly. So keep a close eye on your dog's wounds & behavior if the wounds start to look infected , feel hot, or the dog acts listless get the dog antibiotics w/o delay.

Ours are 8-9 weeks right now. We should have some by fall for sale (we hope). There is someone in Nashville selling on CL but I don't know how good they are.

I LOVE MY JUBILEES. Their feathering is gorgeous already.

I heard both guineas and turkeys will kill snakes. We've got some guineas up the road from us. Some farms around here sell them and the turkeys. Once we've got the chicks established and running smooth I'd like to get some guineas too. They also eat ticks I heard. We had a wicked outbreak of ticks here about five or six years ago, right after we moved here. Neighbor told us the chickens help control the tick population. Bought some that spring and haven't had a tick problem since. Could be coincidence, but I prefer to give them credit!

I don't see it posted on here yet, so I will share. Ellen Dill called me last night and she is hosting another swap in Lascassus on Saturday May 4. Sign in between 7 and 9am. $5 per vendor. Should be fun if the weather is good! I missed the first one but hope to bring tons of birds to this one.
