Well I finally got my home made incubator version 2.0 all straightened out. Been holding steady at 100 for over 24 hours now. My eggs arrived today. I won 24 bantam cochins in an auction and got 30 with none broken. Also gonna be setting 7 eggs from my barred and laced EE mutts from my first hatch. So excited.
I had the hardest time getting my temps to stabilize when I transferred my old workings into the new box. It was climbing to 106 and once even 108. spent a whole day messing with it then finally figured out it was the cat laying on the glass keeping his ol' belly warm making it get hot. Put a laundry basket over the glass and the rest is history. Steadied right out. I even pushed the panic button and emailed DMRippy asking her to hatch them for me if I couldn't get it straightened out in time, and thanks for your willingness to help by the way.

Trying to catch up..it's been so busy here.
Country...Jerry starts taking orders after Feb 1st for his chicks.They sell out very fast but he will have some slw's if they are ordered say the 2nd..$9.chick.

Donna-whiteis dominant in some breeds like Leghorns but in other breeds not necessarly so you won't know until you breed them.
Hope all if our Rutherford County folks made it through yesterday without damage

He ships.He has a min of 10 chic.Shipping is $40 for 18 or more. $50 under 18 since they need a heat pack.
I always drive up though cheaper and lots less stress.His birds are addicting though

Country...true Wyandotte are broody.You can't breed it out without outcrossing or possibly by using hatchery stock since they are not pure it would be easier to breed it out as many have started with hatchery stock and done that....generations removed from hatchery stock still look llike them though.
My BLRW and Partridge love to be broody...the partridge started broody before they their first egg.
Your not allowed near Jerry's birds if you go to his house but he works in Elzabethtown and takes the birds to work with him so it cuts down about a half hour drive .

Country, I am looking very hard for some eggs. If I have no luck I have a neighbor that has them an will sell me egg when they start laying. He said it would be march. I offered to hatch some for him too. I can get you some eggs or hatch some chicks. I know those birds are nice, but $9 for a chick for a backyard flock is more than I want to pay. I will if I have to, but I am not there yet. I am not showing and don't need show birds. I will find some, just give me time.

If I can't, I can drive to KY and pick them up if he still has some..

I am working on breeding wyandottes, So better quality is going to be more expensive. 9 dollars is expensive, but if you go to greenfire farms, their birds range from 30-400 bucks per day old chicks..
I totally unsterstand holly. Bio-security is inportant. I wouldnt beable to meet him, he is closer then I thought, but still kinda far for me. I will see if I can split an order or something. Im putting my glw roo and two other laying hens with the slw till I get glw or slw. Poor girl is alone now.
