It’s actually a different rooster (still black) breeding the only blue hen and a birchen which was a throwback from last year.

Black can't carry blue and a black from blue lines is just a black.
Black is only gonna pass on black. Your blue can pass on black or blue so ya you have a 50% of getting blue.
If you're getting a higher number the odds are just going in your favor.
Sometimes a blue can be so dark it looks black. But if that's the case blue Xs blue also has a 50% of producing blue. But it would also have a 25% chance of producing splash so if you start getting some super light chicks then that's the case.
You say your rooster is black so I'd assume he is and you're just getting lucky on blues this go around.
