The Old Folks Home

I have to say I thoroughly enjoy this thread as well. In fact it is the only thread I follow on BYC (well except for Linda's when she actually POSTS on it :lau) any more. I used to try to help out with questions too but when the format changed, I didn't see the questions any more. I am sure they are here somewhere but now that they aren't on the "front page" I haven't found them. I completely respect people breeding for and teaching people how to maintain breeds to SOP. Most of those people are very nice and willing to share their knowledge. I know there are some people who are sensitive to finding out what they have is not to SOP or even pure bred. I also know there are people more than willing to "jump on" and criticize a newbie. Glad that none of that happens here and probably the main reason why I don't go to any of the heritage breed pages. Life is too short to deal with "raging" opinions. I do like the fact that we talk about just about anything (well anything "allowed" by BYC ;) ) and can get silly sometimes. That is why I like coming to the thread. I am very happy Wisher started it and it carries on. BTW, I forget who is thinking about the BR turkeys but yes the eggs taste very close to chicken eggs like SCG said. The birds are very friendly (if not a tad but stupid) and get to a good eating size. Home grown turkey is about the best turkey you will ever eat.

I went to JUST look at a friends place and he was liquidating his birds. 6 EE (2 are rump less and look different) 1 buff chancler, and 3 muscovies later I headed home. My DH just shook his had and said "How many this time?" At least this batch of unwanteds are clean and well cared for.

As I plan to sell off most of the horses, I hav been imagining turning the horse barns into chicken coops!!

I quit lying a few years ago when my broken arm was swabbed for bomb making chemicals, and my shoes went into the scanner and no one had the time to help me get my shoes back on ( needed tying) with one hand. I ran to next flight with shoes in my hand. NEVER AGAIN. Security is overkill here.

Arielle, I have been considering selling off my horses as well. I don't ride much and they are a lot of work. I might have to hold on to the old gal (I do not want her going to someone who will mistreat her) or send her somehow to my daughter, but I am pretty sure I am going to sell off the two younger ones.
Great to hear that you gave up "lying" a few years ago. Life must be much simpler! :lau
I agree about the TSA. After watching my 75+ year old MIL get "patted down" by TSA agents (I know it is their job to do it) and thoroughly scan the wheelchair provided by the AIRPORT, I decided that it is all nothing but security theatrics to make us all feel better. What it does is completely annoy the you know what out of me whenever I have to fly.

Getting ready to head to airport. DH is taking a later flight (tomorrow) so we are going to stay in a hotel tonight near the airport instead of trying to drive in this weather tomorrow and hope to make it on time. Would rather drive the almost 3 hours now, which will probably turn out to be closer to 6, and just get it over with. Not looking forward to staying at a hotel but sometimes you just have to suck it up.

How far do you live from the major airport?

One advantage to living here. I can get there in 20 minutes in a pinch.

A chantecler should do well in WY. You might have to get a couple EE so she has friends.

It is snowing here I hope it snows enough to make some snow ice cream my DH wants some badly.

Right now it is just a light dusting, but we are suppose to get between 1-3". I do love the snow for short periods!

It was me.

Thanks, for the input. I have been searching for some one near by that may sell me a pair. If the hen goes broody and raises the babies I don't mind selling them but I don't plan on trying to do that.

I'll just eat the eggs.

Quote: Ops lying--- fingers are too cold to type accruately!! lol

I will keep my two old ones-- they are my first. I promised my old guy he would never be leased out again after the neglectful treatment he received when leased out as a youngster. I had lease him to a teenager whose parents were footing the bill-- I don't think he had a trim for the entire 1+ years he was leased, and they threatened to abandon him when they moved barns. I was deperate to get him back. TUrns out the dad is a doc and a childrens specialist in BOston.

I had a visitor yesterday and that old guy was the first one to meet and greet the visitor-- I wondered if my horse remembered this visitor who was about 13 the last time they saw each other.
