The Old Folks Home

@microchick I have SDW OEGBs and Seramas, if you decide you want to try shipped eggs, feel free to holler at me!

Really? Truly? Been a totally washout of a day as far as my egg/chick quest is concerned. I finally heard from my nearby source this morning and it's a no go. Her hens just aren't laying so I'm pretty discouraged at the moment. Our Amish neighbor is going to have eggs for me in two weeks that I'm going to break in my incubator with those. I sure would like to get my hands on SDW eggs. I have a source here for Seramas but I cannot find SWDs to save my life.

Maybe in May? The temps should be good for shipping here and maybe I'll have a hen go broody and I could even stick the eggs under her. If not, I will stick them in the incubator.

Ronott1, no I have never tried caprylic acid. I just read about it and it said that it is an oil derived from coconut and palm oil. I'm allergic to tree nut and tropical oils. Would I have trouble with it? I saw that the homeopathic vitamin/supplement on line store I use has it. I could order the next time I stock up. I'm willing to try anything that helps my stomach. As it is I have to watch what I eat pretty closely. No fatty food, no fried foods, no tree nuts, blah blah blah.......

Yep! My SDWs aren't laying well now either, but I'm sure they will be soon. Seramas are doing well, and by May, I should have bunches of them. Be happy to send ya some! :)

If my rib wasn't busted I'd be doing cartwheels right now! WVduckchick, you turned a frown upside down for me! Thank you so very much and you have a deal. We'll work out the details the first part of May as soon as the temps settle into spring norms here. Your birds are cuties. That little boy has the sweetest face. I'm so grateful for your offer. Thank you!

Just a quick shout out to those experiencing prolonged winter darkness. Haven't seen anything from Felix in forever and Al has been relatively hibernational (whaddayathink of my new word?) as well it seems. Days are getting longer! Won't be long and there will be more light once again. For those encased in ice, I have it on good authority that you'll be complaining about the heat in virtually no time at all, all thanks to global warming! Have you contributed your daily share of carbon to the environment? Other green house gasses will be accepted in lieu thereof...

Hoping that all who are "medically challenged" are improving and wishing you quick & successful recoveries. For those who are old and feeble like yours truly, I recommend a day of rest... OK, maybe a week of rest, followed by a vacation, then more rest to recover from it. Since I am once again experiencing prolonged lack of sunlight due to high altitude humidity (clouds) and expecting liquid sunshine (rain) over the next several days, the answer to any question about "what to do" is "relax in my recliner". Though presently I'm wasting valuable recline time sitting in this uncomfortable folding chair typing on this keyboard...

Wishing all you old folks (even those impersonating an old folk) a wonderful Saturday and a thrilling Super Bowl Sunday. GO Patriots!

Got up this morning and went to the post office to collect a package right when they opened. I decided since BF was still sleeping off the cold we've had for almost a month that I'd take the time to jaunt through the cemetery my town paid someone to repair stones in. I wanted to be prepared to answer questions on how/why I would benefit the town to be used over their regular repair guy.

Well... I am appalled at the repair work. It is some of the most sloppy and unprofessional work I have ever seen.

But... I enjoyed the very frigid morning jaunt (it was 5F and I had wet hair and was wearing sneakers and a t-shirt - the trip was not planned). There were a few times that I slipped or couldn't make it up a hill, but I didn't fall.

And in case you didn't believe me about the shoddy repair work... doesn't this look like a 4th grader did it? And if you repair it once right it won't crack again. These crack because at the time they used iron pins. Iron expands at it degrades. The pins will push the stone out. When you repair it you need to drill out the old pin and replace with a steel pin, mortar it together and then try to replace the chunks and infill. Not whatever this abomination is below.

Thanks latestarter, same back at cha although we are totally not in to the Super Bowl or it's hype. I personally never understood a sport where grown men jump on one another, help each other up, slap one another on the bum and then repeat knowing that a high percentage of them will have severe cognitive disorders when they are only 50 years old.

But that's just the way I look at it. I'll support to my last breath a fan's right to enjoy themselves watching the game tomorrow. That's what makes America GREAT!

Superchemicalgirl, I agree with you 100%. Sloppy craftmanship. The snow is beautiful, though, So much history in those old tombstones. I read them and try to imagine who these people were and what they looked like-what their lives were like 150-200 years ago. Such a treasure needs to be preserved.
