The Olive-Egger thread!

Okay, here's a sample everyone of the Olive Eggers I'll be creating this summer. They're extra special. . .

Black Copper Marans - feather shanked, single comb

As for color I have Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, and Black Copper Marans to go over Splash, Blue, BBR, Black, White, Blue Cuckoo, and Silver or Golden Duckwing Araucanas.

I explained this all to my mom, and she said she didn't care - Just as long as the egg is Olive colored.

Well I find it fascinating.

Since Wynette's Marans so far seem to have the best "red" in the egg, I'll be likely to focus on her birds, Black Copper, over the others - So that should make Olive Eggers who are Blue Copper, Blue, Black, White, BBR, and a possibly sex-linked blue diluted type Cuckoo.

Neato, Kathy! Pics, please!!!!
Goodnes, Illia - hate to FF life, but I can't wait to see your results! I bet they'll be BEAUTIFUL!!!

I just turned on my camera, and went to take the first picture ..... dead batteries, AGAIN! I use those Lithium batteries, but I sure do go through alot of them. I have to go in town tonight, so I will pick up some new ones and get a few pictures.

I hate that. Mine does that also... always seems to run out of batteries at the wrong time, too! Regular batteries last even less time.

This is my only Olive laying girls' egg - mother was Wheaten Penedesenca, father a Blue Ameraucana. Membrane removed.

Is that a blue interior I see? Because that's a sign of a good Ameraucana parent - You cross that back to a blue again and get a really good blue. A lot of Araucana breeders do this; If their hens lay olive green eggs, but it has a blue interior, they take a blue parent to that, and the offspring lay blue again.

. . . Makes me wonder about other Olive Eggers. Anyone else have interior egg photo shots? This gives me an idea on F2 offsrping back to blue egg layers and what the result may be.
