Kelly, the Marans hen that laid those neat mauve-colored eggs has been sold. She just wasn't up to my standard for the breed pen, so a nice older couple is enjoying her eggs for eating now, along with some of her hatch mates!
newlyweds - this hen is in with my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks, and Chip is an awesome rooster with his....um....roosterly duties, so I'm sure her eggs are fertile, but it would be an UGLY cross to him, and he's a tan egg laying line of birds, so I'm sure the eggs would only be a light green from their offspring.
I do have 5 of her eggs, crossed to a Blue Ameraucana (that's from a green egg laying line) in my bator now. The thing I'm most worried about is that I have an awesome candler (it's an old projector, and that thing sees through walls), but I cannot see in those eggs for nothin'! They shells are SUPER DUPER thick. I can easily see into my darkest Marans eggs with the projector, but not these olive egger ones from my girl! I'm somewhat worried that the chicks will be able to hatch out of them!
