The Olive-Egger thread!

Pawtrait.......adorable babies! Congrats!

Wynette.......I know, I know. (sigh) I really figure they won't start until 24 weeks anyway as that was when my pure ameraucana's started laying. But the wait is killing me, I can't wait to see what I get, especially with the olive egger rooster as that's more of an unknown than the Welsummer rooster. The girls are SO red now, so I know it's coming soon, which makes it harder to wait. I do know it's better for them to lay later though.

So here's to 3 more weeks going by FAST! (and here's your finger smiley

Well, it's not looking like Olive Eggers are going to be added to the Main Chicken Breeds Index Page here on BYC -
https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/

I requested that they add it... but, since they are a mixed breed it's not looking good... and I totally understand and respect that -
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5690165#p5690165

so, I posted an Olive Egger page here under Easter Eggers Breed Page -
https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/easter_eggers/chicken/416

I'm hoping others will create pages too and show off the awesome Olive Eggers!

Well...I don't know what to make of it yet, but two of my OE's I've been waiting so long to lay died this week.

One was my favorite "imposter" lav OE I posted pics of a few pages back. I don't know if they were egg bound, or if it was something else. They were "off" but I thought it might be because they were getting ready to lay. These two pullets were also lowest on the totum pole. No marks on their bodies, change in poo, nothing discernable or out of the ordinary. I'm stumped. Calling my local extension office to see about a necropsy...

Oh, I am so sad to hear this! We do get attached to our birds and it's tough when we do everything for them and then something like this happens... so very sad. I sure hope they are able to help you figure out what could have happened to your OliveE girls.

so sorry! We have had a few die this week also...at first I thought it was so no reason, but nope we have something going on. Treating and hopeful for the best! Of course it is all my favorite ones! Please let us know what you find out.

Back in August I hatched 12 first generation OE’s from EE mom’s and an FBCM dad. For a while I thought I had all 12 boys but as they matured it became apparent that I did have 4 girls in the mix! 2 of the OE boys found new homes the others went to freezer camp last weekend.

I got a wonderful valentines gift from my girls, my first olive egg! I got another one Tuesday!

It is in the last row of the second column! The eggs in the first column and the two in front of the OE are blue/green eggs from my EE’s. I tried several different backgrounds but couldn’t get a picture that brought out the true colors. The two darker brown eggs are pullet size eggs and the two FBCM hens were laying darker eggs last year so I can only assume that two of my OE’s are actually laying brown eggs unless of course the FBCM girls are just getting started. Then there are some various shades of brown eggs, the last 6 are Silkie eggs.
