The Rhodesian Ridgebacks struck again!

Jody, I only read your first message in the thread... I hope that the authorities were called and that complaints were filed.

Before I read any further and see if anyone else has answered this post yet …let me say this…

Think about what you just said and advised. Should these dogs be relocated and disappeared to another area of the country to become a danger to other unsuspecting people or children or other livestock?

As responsible people and animal owners, we need to make sure that these particular animals never hurt anyone or anything again. “It takes a village.”

I don't know the laws in Nebraska, but here in Virginia if an animal control officer sees a dog harassing or attacking "livestock" the officer is REQUIRED to put the dog down. Other citizens witnessing an attack are ALLOWED to destroy the attacking dog(s).

What will get the attention of the owners of the Ridgebacks is a civil suit in addition to whatever the police and criminals courts do. Everyone who has been affected by these dogs should file separate civil suits against the owners, requesting significant damages. They should probably all have the same attorney for the civil suits to keep the focus tight.

Good luck to you and your neighbors.

For those that inquired, There are no licensing requirements for dogs here unless you live in the city limits. There is a leash law, and it is legal to shoot the dogs if we catch them on our property. The Sheriff's Dept is great here. Unfortunately, they can't be everywhere at once. The problem is the bubblehead authorities in Omaha. We are not part of the city, but the county has a case sharing agreement with the Omaha City Attorney. The city prosecutes all dog cases in the county, and many city people just don't get it. We are grouping together as a neighborhood to fight these people. The judge from the last case is getting a letter. So is the city attorney and the county attorney. By state law, these dogs should have been declared dangerous and had tighter restrictions on them the first time this happened. The judge just decided that it wasn't necessary. She is an idiot.

I did hear gunshots coming from that direction on Friday night. DH and I were leaving for a camping trip, so I haven't had a chance to find out what was being shot at. It could have been somebody taking out a coon, possum or coyote, but I hope it was the dogs. We got back too late last night to investigate.

We live in a small town not too far from you. When the neighbors pit bulls were on the lose one deputy said shoot them on your property if they attack. A different deputy said you can't shoot a firearm within city limits. Of course ,it wouldn't have made any difference- I would have shot them if they attacked anything on my property and taken whatever came. Luckily that never happened and the owner moved away!
I imagine I will probably hear about a child being maimed on the channel 6 news sometime. And it doesn't matter about what type of dog it is- my uncle had half his heal torn by a toy dog. It's just the bigger guys can pancake you and once you're down you won't be getting up again.
Hope it will all work out!
