As soon as the wing feathers come in. The feathers will look 'shredded' unlike normal chick feathers.When can you tell if they will have silkie feathers instead of regular feathers?
(this isn't a silkie/sizzle, but it gives you an idea of regular feathers)
Frizzles, of course, will have curled up feathers coming in.

He ripped off a nail today so he got to come in and rest for a while. He's such a sweet guy. He's one we got from country.
They just cross them with frizzle Cochins then back to silkies. Sweet and beautiful. My silkies and sizzles are in with all my LF. Somewhere around 50 out there. Two large coops, large run but they free range all day as long as hawks aren't around. I don't know how far "country" <<her BYC user name, ships but that's where I got my birds and she has a great reputation. Mine are super sweet and we actually like the smooths over the curly sizzles. Some might know of someone closer, or you can get eggs from about anywhere.
