The Sussex thread!

Yeah! a Sussex thread! I raise Standard Coronation, Light and Buff Sussex and I LOVE them. They are the sweetest babies, and love to hang with me and even sit in my lap! Yes I'm one of the crazy chicken kissers...here are some of my Sussex kids...

I need to take some more pictures! My Buffs are now 5 months old now. I'm going to enjoy this thread

Just got my first egg from my buff sussex the other day! Exactly 5 months old! Hatched on 9/22/09 and first egg on 2/22/10

Here are my Buff Sussex today, my cockerel started crowing 3 days ago...

My oldest buff roo started crowing late too and it's the most god awful sound I ever heard! It's really quite comical tho he tries soo hard! The 5 mo old cockerel I haven't heard a peep out of yet!

Good Morning! What beautiful Sussex everyone. Question for you, I hatched out one Buff Sussex pullet and she is getting around to breeding age. The only ones I have to breed to her are Light Sussex. What will the chicks come out looking like? Buff?

What is your opinion of the Buff. Do you like them as much as the Light? Do they lay as well and get as big as the Light?

I've kinda been wondering what this cross would produce too. My extra light roo is in with my buffs right now but now that I'm getting eggs I gotta get him out of there so I can hatch some of these! A few more weeks and wait for the eggs to increase in size but actually they have been nice sized for pullet eggs!

Personally I'm liking the buffs as much if not more than the lights. The lights are very calm but these buffs are the epitomy of calm! My oldest roo is as big as my light roo. And the birds from the other line seem a bit smaller but they are also younger. We'll see. And as for egg laying time will tell!:

So, Janie, are you gonna hatch some of those eggs from the buff roo with the light sussex? I would like to see what they do produce!
