Our sussex finally started laying again. She took a 6 week break whie she was molting. I was surprised to see her egg this morning! She'll stop until Jan-Feb once it starts getting below 40*
Today when I came home our speckled sussex was missing and no feathers were anywhere at all. We checked all around the yard and in the back field behind our house. We even checked the neighbors yards but she is no where to be found. Tomorrow morning we are going to knock on our neighbors door to see if she wandered in with their chickens. Where do you speckled sussex's tend to hide? I know the chances are slim that she is okay, but it's hard to just stop trying.![]()
We found her remains this morning in the back field. She must have wandered off and something got her. She was the largest out of our chickens so now we are going to put a cover over the run on our new coop so no others fly out. It's just sad because she was so sweet, and today our EE has been looking depressed because one of her hatch mates was Pox (the SS).![]()
Does anyone know where to get speckles sussex's at this time of the year in Missouri?
Love all of your pics, but this last one really made me smile. I like the "so now what?" expression on the chick's face.
