The Who, What, Where Poll!

Well I started off with just some hatchery stuff. Then I decided I liked true exhibition quality orpingtons. Then i started doing some crosses and improvements so I needed an extra coop. Then the kids got into 4-H and I got them a few bantams, then I decided I needed a seperate coop for them, cause they were too flighty and scared of the big chickens. So now I have 3 coops. I do eat my extra roos, and I sell quite a few chicks every year as well as pullets.

1. 4.87 acres
2. 13 total. 1 adult roo, 3 adult hens, (8) 31 day old chicks and (1) 40 day old chick, all Orpington's. By me best guess so far I have 4 roo's and 3 hens out of the chicks. I also have 24 eggs on the way. Blue Orpingtons and Golden Laced Cochins (saw the Cochins and had to have them)
3. Rural
4. The coop I am using right now was originally used for doves. Holds my chickens fine. I figure if I put more roosts up I can comfortably fit 15-20 chickens in there as they only go in to roost at night. I also have a (10 x 12 ?) shed that was being used for quarantine of a rescued rooster, but we ate him (see what happens when your mean?). It is now being used for my chicks because it had electricity. I have weaned them off of the heat lamp now. Unless you consider opening the door and letting the chickens run my 5 acres, it doesn't have a run, neither does the dove thingy.

.9 acre

3. City

4. Coop is 4' x4' over a 4' x 10' coop

So no worries about what you have we all make do with what we have

1. What size of back yard do you have?
We live on 20 acres, so no "backyard" really. About 8 acres of it is horse pasture and another 3 is CRP.

2. How many chicken do you have?
5 right now, down from 11 originally. Had predator problems this summer. We are getting chicks in March. I would like to order at least 15 chicks.

3. What area do you live in? Rural, country, mountains, suburbs, city, etc...
Technically, we are in the suburbs. I would consider us rural, however, since our city does not allow lots under 5 acres and most of it is still active farmland.

4.What size coop do you have? With run or without? (small, medium, large)
Right now our coop is an old horse stall in the old barn, 12x12. Chickens free-range the whole farm during the day. Due to predator problems, we purchased a standalone coop and are building a secure run for them this spring. I think the new coop is 10x10 or so.

1) We're on 1 full acre, but much of it is not flat, on the side of a mountain.

2) We have 9 full size adult laying hens, and another 23 in varying ages between 5 days old and 14 weeks.

3) Smoky Mountains

4) A medium sized coop for the adults, and a small one we use to brood chicks after the age of about 3 weeks when it's time for them to get out of the house. Large and small brooder in the house, and incubator in the bedroom

Total acreage - just over 3, (2 acre "backyard")
Just ordered 36 chicks yesterday arriving the end of February. No chickens currently.
Country Living and loving it
Currently building a 16x40 run with an 8x8 coop (in 16x16 run) and an 8x12 coop (in 24x16 run) that will be separated by a fence but will be able to allow access to complete 16x40 run.
