well, we live in the country...our Backyard so to speak is about 2 acres....we have a 4'X8' coop and a 14'x16' run covered with chicken wire. We live in Washington State and we live at an elevation of about 1200 ft, so we do get snow (sometimes a lot) and some years we do not get any ....currently we do not have chickens, but have chicks arriving on the 30th of January 8 of them to be exact...2-Light Brahmas, 2-Plymouth rock 1-Buff Orp, 1-Black Star, 1-Red Star, 1-Speckled Sussex

this is my first experience raising chickens, but I am prepared! I hope!

1 we have 15 acres
2 41 I think
3 6 miles out of town
4 10 x 20 for the layers, 8 x 8 for a breeder coop, and a 4 x 5 grow out coop. The grow out coop has a 5 x 10 run and the breeder coop has a 10 x 20 run. The big coop has a 40 x 40 fence but the girls ignore anyway so I don't even bother to close the gate anymore.

Beautiful eggs in your Avitar, HurstsHens!

1. & 3.**We live in rural southern Wisconsin with 30 acres - most of it in the back yard.
2.**We have 10 hens and 1 rooster right now. Started in May with 10 & 2 after not having chickens for about 25 years.
4.**Our coop is 8 ft. x 8 ft. Just built in early September. A picture of the coop is my Avitar. The white spot in the front is Rusty T. Rabbit in his play yard not a chicken in a run. I don't have a run at this time. I do plan to make one for days I just don't want the flock running around, but for now they are free-range.

I suspect most of our members have suburb or city lots so you shouldn't feel out of step.

1. an acre (homestead)
2. 14
3. rural small town (approx. 1800 people), hill country, walking distance to lake
4. main coop is 11'x12' with no run (they all free range) have another coop that's 4'x4' with a 16'x4' run. also have one isolation pen that's probably around 3'x5'

my 4'x4' coop and 4'x16' attached run are reserved for my indoor silkie, during good weather she goes out there for the day. she has to be protected from the larger chickenshawks etc. Eventually I might use it for breeding

HurstsHen*/ :

For those of you who have a LOT of chickens....say over....20? what would you rate is the TOP 3 reasons why you have so many, other than chicken math! LOL\\
For the love of the birds, Breeding, Selling Eggs, Hobby, etc!?!?!?!?

I have 35 Chickens and 12 dozen eggs in the bator. I enjoy Breeding, Hatching and selling. I meet a lot of people and its just a large hobby. I am now raising mealworms now as well.
