Just received confirmation that our first batch of chicks arrives on Thursday. Very excited. We've always had 'point of lay' before so I'm new to rearing chicks. What would be your top tips for the day they arrive? The brooder is set up and ready to go! Very EXCITED.

If you haven't already go talk to your post office and let them know what you are getting. Also talk to them about their procedure for picking up chicks. They will usually call you before they are officially open to pick them up.

If you can get nutri-drench and give each chick a drip when putting them in the brooder. Be sure to also show each chick where the water is in the brooder.

Lastly be sure to take lots of pictures of the cuties :love and enjoy them!

Ohhh....lol! Right now go and get you a roll of paper towels and put them right beside your brooder you shall need them for your chicks will bestow poops on you pretty much every chance they get. If you're lucky enough not to get directly pooped on even if there is a solitary poop in the brooder about 95% of them will run through it and share it with you on their feet. Bounty is awesome, just so you know.:)

My top tip is don't stress but plan ahead. Since you already have chickens at least you won't make the rookie mistake of not having a coop ready! They'll grow up faster than you know, so start planning out how you want to integrate them in with your older birds.
