This morning, one of the BR chicks was dead. Not sure if it was just weak or she accidentally crushed or smothered it, but just darn. So, we have 3 BRs and the one Blue Orp baby who are doing great. She's teaching them to eat and drink, but sometimes, doesn't know what she should do, it seems. First time mom thing, I guess.

Well shoot!

I hate that. Glad to hear that the others are all doing okay though. I guess it would be a normal thing to be confused on how to raise those babies. Heck! Us humans get completely confused with just one!

I guess that's true. Not all humans are mother material, are they? She didn't appear to kill it on purpose and it could be she did nothing wrong at all. The last one hatched was a bit weak at first. Not sure that's the one that died, but it's possible. She's teaching them well at the moment.

You are most definitely correct, Cyn! Not all humans are mother material, but that's another whole can of worms that I won't open up here.

Glad to hear that she's teaching them well right now. She'll get it down! Shoot! She's braver than me to raise 4 babies at a time!

:aww I HATE that....
I hold my breath doing the morning rounds every day... never know when someone will just give up during the night. Can't wait until all the babies are grown! But I have 5 new babies in the brooder tonight (Millies and LB) with a couple more still in the hatcher waiting for them to do something. :)27 quail in a tote, and they were ALL still alive this morning!

I'm glad things are going okay, but sorry that you lost one.

Is it a blue Orp or a splash? If it is splash my fingers and toes are crossed... for well, I won't even type it out.

I have to believe that Glenda did not hurt anyone on purpose. This is new to her as you say and she is doing well, now.

Do you remember that Lacy was a bit like that, she was so young and seemed a little hesitant with her babies, but weren't we all, LOL.
