Did you know that dark pieds can throw loud pieds, i have a bunch of them this year, white and IB do not make pied, they make IB split white, Pied is a gene

This is a dark pied hen if you enlarge it you can see the white on her legs, extra white on her throat and wings, she is out of my pied hen and my split white male.,if she is bred to a white she can throw all pied either dark or loud.
All my loud pieds came from a dark pied hen, the breeder was in shock the first time they hatched because they didn't know the pied gene was in there till she hatched out the first clutch layed.

here is another.

They are all beautiful. Well I'm just saying Thor and Calypso might have come from IB and White. I don't know for a fact what their parents are I just know that Thor and Calypso look like IB pied peafowl. What is a loud pied and a dark pied? I've heard of dark Pied before and that they only have white flight feathers and throat patch. What I learned from my neighbor and the person I bought Thor from is a Pied can come from a White peafowl breeding with any color, and a split is any color breed to any color except white. White peafowl contain the genetic trait Leucism which gives them a white plumage. Because of Leucism it makes the white color always dominant and appear in certain areas if a white and colored peafowl breed. They also mentioned how a split will usually only show one color not both but carry both colors.

TY
when winter hits and hatching is over it is a good way to keep conversations and threads going, my peas are lucky to be able to be free with the setup i have and i really enjoy taking their pictures and sharing them, i got nothing else out here but me and the animals but i would not trade it for the world, i hate leaving here even to go to get staples that we have to have.
I am going to be getting an action cam so i can film flight and walk about to share with everyone, i get to watch my peas from my back porch fly down every morning out of the trees it is a beautiful site.
but i can never get a clear photo so action cam here i come

just decided to wait till after Christmas to order it and the accessories so nothing gets lost in the Christmas mail rush.

See these are so blurry, i know my camera has a setting for this shot but i am to tecky dumb to figure which one it is, i am a little lazy with some stuff anyhow.

Just walking with them can be a treat and it is pretty routine here.

You have horses don't you?

Yep. 13 of them. I wish my peafowl could have the room to fly more then 6 feet high. When I get the flight pen built they will have lots of room to fly. I hope you do get that camera it would be beautiful to seem them fly. Let me guess the reason why you asked me if I have horses is because of the roan color. Roan is when white like color mixes with color. Also what I learned about Pied peafowl is it's a pied peafowl it has to have color with white splotches so long as it has more color than it does white. If there is more white then there is color than it's a Silver Pied.

Dark pied peafowl carry two copies of pied gene and when bred with a white partner ( carrying two copies of white gene ) , all the chicks will be pied ( carry one white gene and one pied gene )

Well then where did the dark pied comes from? Because there has to be two varieties that bred together and created a dark pied peachick. The white gene in peafowl is known as Leucism that makes the white color always dominant making it show up. A split is when a peafowl carries 2 color genes a dominant and a recessive but only one color shows. Pied is when color with white splotches across the body. I don't get why their has to be dark pied, pied, loud pied, and silver pied. Silver Pied is when there is more white then color. They should've just left it as pied and silver pied peafowl in my opinion. Pieds just have to have white splotches on them but have more color then they do white otherwise they are a Silver Pied. That is the way I learned it. If you think about Pied is just like Roan. Pied is in Avian, Roan is in Mammals.

Will someone good in silver pied genetics explain what a silver pied will look like .?. He should have silver tints on his back feathers..?? thanks connerhills

Not to go off topic here, but there are two roan types in horses, one is true roan in which one parent must be a true roan and there is sabino.

One of our true roans

One of our sabino roans
