Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

So I wonder why we don't do that for ducks then. Maybe geese are more apt to do that. I weird. I like to know why I'm doing something. LOL.

Especially when it's taking an egg out of the bator for 15 minutes!

well i kinda do i lift the lid (i have to in order to get water in the bator. then i go grab the picher and then warm up the water. then pour it in flip the eggs then place the lid back on
takes me around ten mins to do all that..

maybe geese leave the nest a little longer then ducks do.. when my souix went broody the only time i saw her was when i fed them..
when greg the goose went broody i saw her all the time.
IDK??

it could have been that greg the goose didnt want to be broody really.

Hey do you guys use turners for your duck and geese?

I used it once for my ducks and then the next ime didnt and more hatched when I hand turn them. Just wondering. I might be getting some goose eggs. If I can win this freaking auction for them. Me and one other person are fighting over them.

Let me know any little tricks you all have learned. I would love to know.

Evelle, sorry about your orp. I haven't lost any lately, but I have lost a few this year. My duck to a hawk, a duck, 3 orps, a BR, and a SLW to raccoons. I still let mine out. I'd rather be out where I could be hit by a car or who knows then locked in jail all the time, so I don't want to jail my birds. They do have a big covered run attached to the coop so I can lock them up safe at night and they still have lots of room. It needs reinforced though, and I'll be doing that once it gets warmer.

Afternoon all, going to be an all weekend thing for this Sebbie to hatch. Luckily I am busy with farm customers tomorrow most of the day.

Just spent part of today trimming a hedge and tree and setting 4 corner fence posts and painting them bright white. Looking forward to getting the fencing up around the front of the property. Will have flocks of geese in each front pasture when it is done.

I will never use a turner again on ducks. I decided that when I lost 7 or so eggs. Fully formed but never got to the air cell. The 2 on their sides (that wouldn't fit in the turner) made it.

Pics when it comes.

Did you see my post about your Sebbies? BOTH of them are veining!!
