Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

QJ, if I may recommend, when your LG is available, I would move your sebbies to that bator. One thing I am finding is that the humidity level really needs to be lower than for ducks, especially after the first 2 weeks of incubating. Also, it is easier to cool/mist when they are by themselves.

Ok, I'm glad you said that. I'm thinking my air cells are looking about 2 or 3 days too small.

QJ- Give her a week or two to make sure they are drakey's babies and not the blue guys and you should have eggs to set in no time. She started laying last fall and never misses a day, although sometimes she'd hide them just to keep me on my toes. I set the last 10 of her eggs. 5 that I collected for hatching from her, and 5 I pulled out of the fridge just to see if they'd hatch.
I think I may have found my silkie roo. If I can get him soon enough and my girls get un broody and start laying soon enough then I can do the easter hatch. The ducklings are due st patties so the incubator should be free just in time.

I'll give her 3 weeks! I'm heading out to change the water because they have grossed it up. I mean, it's been 3 days after all. Ducks are dirty birds.

And then we'll see what "happens". If anything.

QJ, congrats on the new chick!! Sorry about the other two.

Congrats on the chick!
My turkey has grown one brown feather where a beard would be if she was a tom. I wonder if that means she's close to laying. Too bad I don't have a boy. There was a flock of wild turkeys less than a mile from my house this morning. I'm kind of hoping she calls in a boy for a booty call, lol.

Question: My duckies are 18 days old today. Two of the duckies for sale are no longer peeping, but instead sound like whoopie cushions. Is it safe to say they are girls??

I have never had a boy duckling so I couldn't say for sure since I don't know what they sound like, but I would think so. My girls started making a funny sound at the end of their peeps at a few weeks, and it turned into full blown quacking by a month.
My calls don't peep. They make no sounds. I am hoping I simply have the quietest calls ever and that they aren't all boys. I'm kind of worried though, and they are still only the size of day old normal ducks so I am scared to try to vent sex them. I don't want 5 boys though. At least one girl and I'll be happy, 2 and I'll be thrilled, lol.

Vent sexing scares me to death. I'm way to new to handling birds to even attempt, so I have to base it on voice at this point. If 2 of 3 for sale are girls, then we have a great buyer for them. And I'd like them to be gone as soon as they can.... but I don't want to accidentally give her boys.

I hope you get girls, too!!

She's fitting in quite nicely. Still trying to figure out how to get in the pool. And I caught drakey (my daughter named him Blizzard) sealing the deal with Beaker. That's a first. (She's a juvey).
