Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

On a good note..... I woke up to 9 babies almost out of their shells this morning. 3 of them are mad as ever because they have 2 little pieces of string holding them in their shells. They are kicking and peeping so loudly. I can't tell what colors I have yet, It looks like at least one is either blue or black. Its so funny seeing their black skined body instead of the tan like most ducks. These are my silkie chickens.

I have 9 eggs left to go. There has been no action from them, Last night before bed, I had 6 of them with little chips out of them. I am not helping them this time at all. THey are all on their own.

SM, Yay!! I can't wait for you to have a silkie!! As for helping them...if I may suggest, wait until the ones that are strong hatch... then decide whether to help the rest. I have 6 adorable babies instead of 4 because of hubby helping the last two (even though he has now claimed those babies as "his").

By the way.... Aurora sent me an email this morning saying she had enough eggs for both the other bidder and me.... so I asked the other bidder (Christine) to join our group, as it will be her first attempt at hatching.

My Marans eggs arrived this morning!

Packing job kinda sucked I think. 2 were cracked one of which was leaking clear fluid, so I did my first repair job with a crayon.

it stays sealed. I have high hopes for the one that wasn't as bad to make it, but I have my doubts on the other one since it was a pretty bad spider vein crack on the bottom of the egg.

So those of you that have repaired eggs with crayons did they ever make it to hatch? I haven't even started incubating them yet because they need to rest before going into the incubator, but I just kinda want to know what to expect with this whole crayon seal thing. I usually just toss the cracked eggs, but once I read that some people were using crayons to seal the cracks I figured I'de give it a shot.

hatch dat4e is actually tonight or tomorrow morning from when I set them. If I have to help I will. I just get nervous about it now. Onve these are out of the bator and if there is nothing gogin on, I will candle them, even though it is sooooo hard to see anything in those little tiny eggs. If I can't see anything, I guess I may have to intervene.

Chicken, CG has an repaired egg in lockdown right now.

SM, great plan!!!!

Goosie update: Egg #4 has externally pipped!!

Any egg leaking fluids goes right to the trash as they are VERY likely to grow bacteria and go bad while incubating.

I have sealed minor cracks and had them hatch though on more than one occasion.
