Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Julie, it says up to 41 duck eggs, but that would be a tight fit. I nearly max'd my LG with 12 duck and 6 goose eggs.

I will be setting 24 duck eggs on Sat.... 36 in the same bator if geese are still hatching. I will take a pic, if you want.

CG id pip for him.. if you cant hear anything.. it sounds like...... hate to think but didnt make it..

So, with my 14 in there I have room for another dozen or so besides the ones I plan on getting for celtic. (insert devil smiley here). Most of the duck eggs are due the 16th, so I'm hoping they should mostly be out besides a straggler or two by the 17th when I set again anyway. If the 4 fridge eggs develop I will probably give them to a broody here soon so those are out of the way too.
Now, what to get?
I really like the aussie spot ducks, but if I get more call eggs from celtic I'll be maxed out on ducks so those are out. I haven't heard back from the lady with the silkie roo, so I'm thinking about getting some d'uccle or serama eggs and hoping I hatch out a nice trio. So I need to find some sellers and see if they'll have any available in a couple weeks. My silkies are getting on my nerves. They are cute fluffy chickens, I just don't like their personality, or lack of one, very much. They do come in handy for incubators though. I'll keep at least one of the silkie hens I have now. The other I might sell if I find someone looking for a broody hen.

I would go in and see whats going on. Just start slow and go from the air cell, once you have a small hole you will be able to see if it's internally pipped into the air cell or not. If it hasn't and you can see that it's till alive then you may need to pip for it....if you see blood STOP. Let it rest and put a damp paper towel around it to keep it from drying out too much since it will now have a hole. Don't make any extreme tears in the membrane just slowly work a hole.

I did earlier
Nothing
Put the steth against him. No sound no nothing.
No movement either
Other chick you can hear him

Lol, my silkies spend most of the time in the coop. Then they hatch out babies and won't even stay in the yard, they are always next door. It's an empty lot and they have permission from the owners to be over there, but it's not fenced all the way and I don't like them there. 40 is a lot for over winter, I only had 25 or so and sold about 15. It's just too many to clean up after and feed that many when it's cold. That's why besides the girls I have now, I want to stick with banties from now on.
