Thanks for the dog advice Marty. And that's an interesting idea Jules. I've even considered a shock collar. I just think that if she can know she's not supposed to.. this is an obedience issue. I'll try to find something that scares her though. I happen to have ducks in the garage at night with her. (in a huge dog crate so she can't get them.) It's funny... she lays by them like they are her buds. And the chickens/ducks get to where they aren't afraid of her. So that's a little problem.
The egg looks lonely![]()
We are hatch buddies! Got Giant pekings due Saturday! lets get those babies here!
I would leave the shock collar as a last resort. I know I HATE getting shocked--it's a horrible sensation. I've only used it on one of my four dogs and only as a last resort. My Pointer makes the infamous Marley look like an angel. He's lucky he has a really funny personality because he is the worst dog ever! He's 12 years old and I still have to watch him like a puppy or he gets into mischief. My dad calls him "the White Devil."![]()
This is him last summer. We were going camping and I realized I left my pillow and sleeping bag in the house. I left him alone in the car for about 60 seconds and when I got back he'd found some napkins to tear up. When he saw me coming he jumped into the passenger seat and layed down.
Hopefully with a GR/GSD mix you won't need it.
I stuck it in the incubator when I had a lone quail chick, and they've all loved cuddling with it so everyone gets a stuffed "mommy" now, lol.
CG's sending me some call eggs next week, so you've got company.I'm really hoping I can hatch my girls a boy this time. I think my incubation temo was off and all the boys didn't hatch or something because the last 5 calls I hatched are all girls. The ducks before that were all girls too, but the last batch had a few with pee pee's so I think I've got everything running good now.![]()

Hello Everyone! It's been a few days since I've had a chance to catch up on the forum. My mallard egg was overdue to hatch by five days. He was continuesly pecking and peeping without any indications of breaking the shell. I was so worried about my little peep. I stayed in my office for the last few days hoping there would be some kind of new development. I was updating his status on facebook when I began to hear loud peeping and crunchy noises!! I looked down at his egg and watched a piece of egg shell break off!! He zippered through his egg in less than ten minutes!!! It was the most amazing thing that I have ever seen!!! This is the most wonderful day. He has been running around like crazy and is full of energy
He has taken a few naps
I just uploaded a couple of his pictures. The fist one is actually of my pet hens, Lucy, Ethel, and Madison. I clicked on the wrong photo
The other three are right after the hatch
Happy Birthday Shamus!!

Baked this morning, because what else is there to do when it's pouring at 0630?

All my Pekins hatched a week early. I have two calendars that I keep everything on. I write down on both of them who was set when, when hatch date is. And the geese get weighed every Friday and written down on both calendars. I keep track of everything twice. My hubb y hates it. I actually have them down in 3 places..... I have the 2 calendars and them I also forgot that I put them down in my little book that is in my purse so if I am out and about I can make sure nothing is suppose to be hatching and we would need to rush home for it.
Ok...thought I'd join in on this thread. I'm starting my first batch of Call duck eggs this evening, and I need all the cheerleaders and finger crossing I can get, lol. I plan to set 20 eggs...that is, if I get 3 more eggs by then. Half will be pastel, half butterscotch, roughly. I'm questioning the fertility on one of my pastel hens, though. The drake she is with seems to prefer the other hen in that trio, so I may have some clear eggs show up out of that pen. Otherwise, there's a whole lot of hanky panky going on out there and the few eggs I've checked are definitely fertile.
So, I've got my fingers crossed that my first batch of Call ducks goes well!![]()
he refuses to try .
which i assume is normal right now. since he just hatched yesterday,.
they other 2 scooted around for a while.
but the more scooted on their bellys. and were up and about pretty fast.
