Sending or receiving eggs or live birds into or out of the USA requires you to go through the USDA and become a licensed importer/exporter. It isn't cheap, and it doesn't happen over night. This is also why the English Orps cost so much because of the fees, and shipping. There are also quarentine issues as well.
I'm so conflicted... I want to let it go... but I feel guilty because the one I pipped last night is alive.
I just met the new neighbors that moved in across the street. He was standing at the gate with his kid looking at the chickens so I brought one up for him to pet. Neighbor said they love the chickens (yay, no one to complain about my roo still) and they want some. Hmm, I happen to have some chicks hatching in a few days...and have a couple of really cute ducklings too...think I found somewhere for some of my babies to go and I'll still get to see them grow up.Then I won't be that weird chicken lady, we'll be that weird chicken street, lol. Especially since hubbies friends down the block just got a couple of chickens last week too.![]()
Its kinda hard to find the ducks, when theres 2 acres of LONG grass to search through![]()
Has anyone had a broody, and had to relocate her nest? Cause thats what im gonna have to do![]()
That's funny. I'm the weird duck lady on a street filled with chickens!
Iain.. did you try to save the baby? how did it go?![]()

Hi everyone! I have a pair of ducks breeding right now, so I expect a hatch in roughly 2 months! Ducklings!
I know it is hard asking you guys to advise on things when you don't have all the factors... anyway I just candled the egg on the left again with the dark blotches and yellow ring around the air sack and saw good chick movement inside like what I would expect at 26 days old. I smell the egg and it did not stink but also had yellow discoloration on the bottom like where it might have absorbed some of the hatching chick fluids. So I am going to let things be.
On another note, I made a startling conclusion today. About two weeks ago I found our buff female drowned in our pond in the early am. No predators marks... she was floating belly up. I had heard about turtles drowning them and thought definitely not those sweet little turtles I see sunning on our duck docks... well look what I saw coming out of our pond a little while ago. No kidding, these are bigger than footballs.![]()
And I thought we only had to worry about the bobcats, foxes and coyotes at night. We just nursed our male snowy mallard back to health after my husband interrupted a bobcat attack with his shotgun... that little snowy is tuft.
HI THERE!!!
Amazing as it may be.... both eggs I internally pipped appear to be improving. The blood on the one I pipped 14 hours ago is receding and the yolk sak is getting smaller too. Its heart is pumping strong. I do not have to strain to see breathing/pulsing on the one I pipped a couple of hours ago.
Hwey ChicksOMy.... I love the BEIs. They are really healthy. I lost one. It had pipped at the wrong end and I wasn't able to help it in time. But the others are all healthy, Once they are drier I will get pics of them
hello everyone. you guys been busy... I finely read all these post so I'm very happy for all of you that have hatch new babies and Great Pictures. Sorry to the ones that lost babies.
Did I miss anything.. I have been so sick then we got 2 really nice days here. i'm so ready for spring and I think all my birds are to.

QJ - You hear anything from PR? It's almost April and I've not even heard anything about when they are going to start working on my order or when I might get them. Last thing I heard from them was that they were not going to start setting eggs untill mid march. Okay, mid march has come and gone and I know everyone else that does not have ducks under a light is getting plenty of eggs from them and lets face it these are not seasonal ducks were talking bout here. But I still hear nothing and now they are all sold out of the color now, so WTH does that mean for our orders?
I'm really tired of this....... they have made me regret my order from day one when they wouldn't even email to let me know they got the order. Grrrrrrrr![]()
here are a few more pictures I took on the only two nice days I really hope we do not get anymore snow....

Update: The one I pipped at 15.5 hours ago is now trying to move to get his beak out of hole on its own. The one I pipped 3.5 hours ago is still breathing well.
I have one egg that is showing staining in air cell. The rest appear to be externally pipping on schedule.... except for the SA of course, which is a day behind the others.
Latest update: Both eggs are still alive. Things are drying up nicely in the egg I pipped 17 hours ago. Heart still beating strong. The egg I pipped 5 hours ago is continuing to try to get his beak out.
Amazing!
Sue, that is how I am starting to feel about these 2 eggs. The only reason I attempted pipping them was because I knew they were goners anyway. It was an opportunity to practice something new. I never in a million years thought they'd have a chance to make it.... now, I'm thinking they just might.
Ah, I wondered what had happened to DaBH. Interesting that what he was calling Bessemers are really just JBOs. We don't have JBOs here.
Love that blue Mallard. We call that Blue Fawn. Mallard with one dose of Blue.
Here are a couple of photos of my Pineapple Upside Down Cake (thanks Marty for the recipe!!!!). I could have used more pineapple - will next time.

It is starting to turn on its own and peep more!! The foot that you can see in the pic at the bottom has moved quite a bit!
Me too.... but I still cannot find its beak!! Its foot is on the fat end... so is the beak at the top of the pointy end?
