Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Tell me about it, but they charge for canceled orders, so I just want them to deliver and be done with it....... By the way would not recommend anyone to them.

I've been discussing with Boondockers for a while now and hopefully they will be willing to work with me on some ducklings.... That remains to be seen..... for now I'll just hatch my own beauties and wait to add some more colors in.

I cannot believe you guys are still dealing with plum run !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHOOPS!!!!!!!!!! Clearly I did that totally wrong... as it is already off! 2nd attempt at wrapping coming up!

He look right properly peeved, and you did a good job wrapping. :D watch so the others don't try to remove it, or that he doesn't start working it loose. Since vet wrap sticks to itself you can figure 8 or pear wrap around the tail and back up and stick to the wrap around the body/wing if it starts to slip.

For those dealing with Plum run, where are they located, and did they give any time frame at all? If they can not tell you even a month your orders would be filled in, I would be questioning them. I know HWF can take sometime because of the size of their breeding program, but they respond to inquiries. If PR has a phone number listed I would be calling. Otherwise a PayPal dispute might be in order. Maybe that would get a response.

OK, I think we got it more securely wrapped this time. Will check to see how long before it comes off. I thought horses could get vet wrap off fast... but I guess ducks are even faster!

He was actually pretty sweet and fairly calm (the 2nd time around). I think we bonded a little during the process.

I believe part of my candling troubles is that I have some eye issues. My dad is legally blind, and with glasses (since I was 2) I can see to read (especially if its enlarged, like my screen always is) and drive (sign shapes and colors help here) If my eyes get much worse, though, i will have to find something else to do for a living, that isn't dependant on sight.

I have an old fashion box candler, but really, I need to find something else other than it and my 9 light mini LED. Its not bad, but I need to use cocoas black attachment, to block out more light too.

very possible, I often have to point out what i'm looking at for hubby....
If we were closer I'd come candle for you.... I LOVES Candling

Well you'd be suprised how many people think letting the birds run loose is very bad practise. That's why I put the little disclaimer at the end, because I don't know how people will react when I vocalize my opinion :P.

Mine go where they want when they want

Good morning, all!!! I am pleased to introduce to you babies #8 & #9: the wrong way baby I hatched from inside out and my sweet silver apple. Amazingly, they are both doing well!!

CG, thanks for the paper towel tip. It really helped!

so cute!

Oh, I see, Calls. Yeah, Bantams are iffy. Bantam chickens have more predator savvy than LF chickens, but the same does not apply to ducks. Especially if you impair there flying ability. And lets face it. Ducks are idiots. I raise breeds around the medium size (Swedes, Light Rouens, BOs, WHs, proto-Bessies), and I find these are the most predator-equipt of all the ducks. Most have good camo, and they can get a very fast pace, without being able to fly. They are also heavier than a kestrel cares to lift, if you know what I mean.

i thought i was the only one that felt that way, i love them to pieces but they sure are thick

Chickens getting some sun.

The goslings are huge and barely look like goslings. Think they are about the size of my turkey. They sleep with and hang out with the ducks most the day, but have began going off grazing on their own too.

they look so grown up and happy!

Yep, 6 weeks old. They have some fuzz on their necks and back, but are most the way feathered.

wow goosie dinosaurs

they are precious!

Here is a pic of my youngsters. 1 of these is 3 months old and the others are all 2 months. I'm really happy with the way the markings are coming along on these guys. My breeding goals are more to the lighter marked ducks with lots and lots of spots vs the heavy marked ducks with large patches of color. I still have some little things to correct with this generation, but I'm getting closer to my breeding goals.

wow they are so gorgeous

I've been using cotton cloth diapers on top of some cheap white dish towels (NOT terry cloth) that I got at Walmart just for this purpose. I got the "flour sack" towels, which aren't super absorbent, but they are 100% cotton and a very fine weave, so no strings. I got another kind that was a cotton blend, also a fine weave, but a little more absorbent than the flour sack towels. They are working great. I forgot how messy ducklings are.

that is a great idea

Woo hoo! Bugaboo's wrapping is looking like it will hold nicely! Hopefully, he will only have to wear it for 3 days, when I will re-check it (assuming he doesn't get it off beforehand).

Should I cut these guys back to a 16% feed.... or is 18% ok?

Why does my life keeping getting worse

.

Last night the family "Helped" me by doing all the animal chores. This morning I awake to my sweet Molly mutilated. Someone didn't properly latch the duck latch and he got out at night. To make it worse my Dane was the predator. Now I've lost two of my babies back to back and can't look at my dane without busting out in tears. I know it's not her fault but it doesn't make it any easier. So I've spent my day in and out of hour long sobbing spells. Please tell me everyone else's day went better?
