OK, I need to know. What all does every one have? (birds, breeds, ect?) How many do you have? What are you incubating right now???
I have Khaki Cambell and Peking ducks, chocolate turkeys, quail, a few chicks (6 actually-black sex link pullets, a barred rock bantem, a mille fleur, and a mystery chick. I'm incubating a few dead eggs (sigh) that were supposed to be old english game, geese (sebs and toulouse), muscovie ducks, silkies, midget white and chocolate turkey eggs.

What are you up to?

This is a good link about angel wing and the effects of high protein fed in unlimited quantity. Have not heard about it being caused by a vitamin deficiency. My birds get daily greens (romaine, kale and/or peas) as well.

I fed my first ducklings game bird starter only. It has 32% protein I believe. The only duck I've ever had develop angelwing came from someone who fed their ducks chick starter, so I think niacin plays a big part in it.

I searched BYC and found some threads that MsLydia had posted in about niacin causing it. It was just light banter back and forth so no references or anything.

9 Coturnix quail adults and 30 more eggs in my bator (rainbow of colors). Ancona's and Ancona eggs coming soon. That's it. I am a city dweller, unfortunately.

How many of each breed Marty?? I'm just sitting here, thinking about ducks. Waiting for external pips on my last two eggs (huff)

DG, I've got 2 africans and 3 grey utility toulouse going into lockdown in the morning. In my other bator, I have 4 buff/grey utility toulouse, 3 buff dewlap toulouse, 5 cayugas, and just set 12 saxony and 10 silver apples this morning.

Hey Marty, I took pics for you of early back shadowing and posted on goose thread. They have made some progress since then. I will get updated pics for you later.

Eyeheart, I believe symptoms of niacin deficiency are mostly leg issues. Then there is vit b (thiamine) deficiency which causes wry neck and star gazing (which I have also dealt with when my cayuga duck was a week old and fixed with polyvisol).

Ducklings are extremely fragile. Fortunately, they are resilient little things.

Awsome Ian, thats great.

Somebody also e-mailed me a "movie" thats only 2-3 minutes long of shadowing. Its very cool, and once my guru explains too me how to do this exact magic trick, I'll try to share it. I will ask her where she prefers and if I can say whos it is first; gotta be polite ya know.

Can you do a pic comparing a quite there yet egg, maybe the same age, next to one that is doing it, so I can really see what I'm looking at? All this is way more complicated than I'm used to.

OH...... Guess what I have coming next week????
